to think a someone who can fine for dog fouling should know the difference between a dog weeing and a dog pooing?

Just as a big of background, my dog sometimes squats when he wees. Big, proper wee he squats, if he's just marking his territory he'll cock his leg.

Have been out for a walk with dog.

I take him across some fields, down to our local beach. He needs a good run and this is usually quiet so I can let him off his lead. To get there I walk along a footpath, across a park and down a little lane. He stays on his lead until we get to the field.

He has 4 shits while we're walking along the footpath and the park. I pick them all up (as I always would).

Half way across the park, an 'official' (I don't think he was our actual dog warden) stops me and asks if I'm aware that I could be fined for letting my dog foul and not clearing it up. I tell him that I am aware, that I always pick up and indicate the bags of shit that I'm still carrying.

Official then states he saw my dog foul and that I continued walking. I immediately apologise, I didn't think I'd missed one, as dog is on his lead, I'm pretty sure I would have noticed him stop, so I start back tracking to try and find it. I can't, so I ask Official where he saw it. Official starts looking where he though he saw it, can't find anything, starts looking further and further afield before finding a poo about 20 feet ahead of where he stopped me. I point out that this couldn't possibly be my dog as we hadn't got that far yet.

Dog then wees and Official realises his mistake. He'd seen dog squatting and assumed he'd pooed.

Instead of accepting his mistake, then going on his way, Official then insists I pick up the other poo that he'd found or I could be fined and while we're standing there he sees another and insists I pick that up too.

I did pick them up, I hate it when people don't and it wasn't worth an argument, but aibu to think that someone who has the power to issue me with a large fine, should know what he's talking about? If dog hadn't weed when he did, I might have ended up with a fine

And that it's really not my responsibility to pick up every turd in the area?

I've had this - was told off by a man in shiny wellies and brand new flat cap, playing at lord of the manner but-never-actually-been-outside thought he'd tell me off full pelt across the park for dog fouling.

I always pick up after my dog. He just looked bonkers tbh for shouting at a piddling dog.

Well done op for not loosing your temper and picking up after other thoughtlesstwats dog owners.

In fact I've just remembered.... he was so annoyed at me and my alleged dog pooing/ weeing I found out he wrote to the parish council and got a little plastic sign put up with a phone number to call etc.

Whenever I see it it makes me laugh. Who's got that much time on their hands? Plus, the sign is littered with grammar mistakes. All over a dog wee!

I referred to bitches because the official should know that half the dogs are going to be squatting and not cocking their legs. If he's chasing after owners when he sees a dog squatting then he's going to be making a lot of mistakes and annoying a lot of responsible owners. It's a fairly basic bit of knowledge for someone in his position.

Sorry LadyPW, yes, I see what you mean.

Totally agree!
