If you have children, do you have children in your dreams?

I am idly wondering what is normal (there is no IABN section, so this will have to do).

DS is only now starting to regularly appear in my dreams - and he's 2. And it's normally just a generic anxiety dream where I've forgotten where I put him. It is not a character role. Most of the time, Dream Me is child free, or at least in a child free situation. By contrast, DH features much more frequently and Default Dream Me is generally married to him apart from those weird ones where you're married to a random famous person you don't even fancy.

Does it just take a while for Dream Me to catch up with Real Me? Will I be dreaming of toddler tantrums when DS is at university? Or am I weird and/or in deep denial about my life?

I think you might be reading too much into it. Occasionally my DC are in my dreams, but only as often as some total random, like an old teacher from school, or the butcher or something!

My kids are grown and I don't remember dreaming about them . Occasionally my partner at the time which appear. My dog does not appear either.
I think it is usually just me.

My DD is 13 and I can't ever remember her appearing in my dream! but I have the feeling of her. I know I have a daughter but I never actually see her. DH rarely appears and I've been married 22 years... Again I know I'm married but sometimes it isn't actually DH I see... My parents have suddenly started appearing but they have actually been passed away 12/14 years so that is odd.
Often in my dreams people from my past make an appearance but in the wrong place - ie people I worked with appear with me at school.

My family house appears a lot. Which I actually love because it's now someone elses family home :-(

Dh is often in my dreams but not the children. I have wondered about this in the past!
Dh dreams of them a lot though.
I find this fascinating. I think maybe mothers' psyches need a break from the children at night.

I have 4 children and I rarely dream about them unless it's an anxiety filed nightmare where they are lostrich or in danger. Now two of them are teens they are starting to appear more in roles similar to adults in my dream, where they are independent. That's really interesting and I've never noticed it before. It's like we switch off in dreams and become just us. But then everyone in your dream is actually just you. That's freaky when you think about it.

I have older (adult) DCs and a little one (3). The older ones appear in my dreams in the same way that other family members do and the little one is as pp's have said, one who crops up needing carrying or remembering or whatever.

Sometimes i dream about my older ones as being young again - same age as the youngest.

One thing i hate is when i dream about my XH (that i'm living with him again) and even in my dream i know it's all wrong and i start getting all distressed and confused and want to go looking for DH. Ugh.
