To be sick of being unwell and not knowing wtf is wrong with me?

user1490398414 · 25/03/2017 21:20

I have been unwell since November. I don't know how to describe how I feel; I just feel unwell, tired and completely drained of energy all the time.

I have had to reduce my days at work from five days a week to three days a week because I just don't have the energy to get anything done. On my days off it is not unusual for me to either spend all day sleeping or simply not be able to get out of bed because I do not have the energy to move.

I have had several blood tests, an ECG and an echocardiogram and they have all come back clear. My GP has ordered another blood test next week but I think they feel like I'm wasting their time.

But surely this is not normal? There must be something wrong with me. I just want to feel normal Sad

Hashi, if you are diagnosed Hashimotos and are symptomatic, you should get a trial of thyroxine. It helps reduce the damage to your thyroid. See thyroid uk site.
Im treated for hashis and its made so much difference although i was in range. I took this trst and it showed where i was lacking in vitamins.

bebrave I know but despite several Drs in other areas telling me this, I've had 3 GPs refuse until my TSH is over 10. I did have one who was about to treat me as my range goes up to nearly 10 then down to 4 then back up again, but the practice closed Sad

PoshPenny · 25/03/2017 22:24

I suggest you get copies of all the blood tests your GP has done, together with the ranges (i.e. What is the normal spectrum) and then plough through on the Internet and see what each test means. I had the same thing myself, all my tests supposedly "normal" and nothing wrong with me, when I was dragging myself along on my hands and knees and couldn't get anything done. Scans and all sorts - everything apparently "normal", nothing to worry about, nothing wrong with you they said. I ended up seeing a private doctor, taking all my nhs blood test results along and finally got a diagnosis and treatment.

Bebraveagain · 25/03/2017 22:29

Hashi, insist on referal to an Endocrinologist. My TSH WAS 4.3 and i got treatment. Also found i dont convert ft4 to ft3 so i have treatment for that too. Can you go private? An appointment costs about 175 and they can advise GP to treat. You definitely need a print of results. Iron (ferritin), folate, B12 and vit D are often low with hashis and that exacerbates the symptoms.

twisterinyogapants · 25/03/2017 22:32

Has ME been looked into ?

HashiAsLarry · 25/03/2017 22:32

bebrave I need to check the new GP will accept private diagnosis, but if so I think I'm headed that way. I do know that when my iron and B12 everything is so much worse Sad

Misskittycat16 · 25/03/2017 22:40

I'd second ( or third) the ME suggestion. Unfortunately quite difficult to diagnose as there isn't a specific test but is diagnosed through process of elimination.
I was diagnosed 3 years ago but had it for much longer. Be kind and gentle with yourself.

Bebraveagain · 25/03/2017 22:43

I have hashis and my GP treated me once advised by my Endocrinologist (private company health care). Take a look at healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk/. Lots of advice available!

Greyponcho · 25/03/2017 22:48

TBH, sounds like coeliac disease.
B12 deficiency can be common in coeliacs too. If you lack intrinsic factor in your gut (which is needed to carry the dietary b12 across the gut walk into the blood stream) then you'll need b12 injections.
Sometimes a folate deficiency can come up as a b12 deficiency.
Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry not being deliberately vague. Don't have the energy to type sometimes Sad

Another vote here for checking thyroid (and anaemia, they go together for me). My TSH was around 1 but GP eventually agreed to try thyroxine because I had all the symptoms. Took a year to get the right dose but has turned my life around. Keep pestering until you get answers - being in 'the normal range' for anything doesn't mean it's optimal for you.

user1490398414 · 25/03/2017 23:17

People are actually giving me more ideas on here though than what my GP has. All my GP is really focused on is diabetes and iron and B12 levels and when those come back clear every time I feel like I'm not being taken seriously.

I have just looked up coeliac disease and I actually have a lot of the symptoms. I never realised it could cause tiredness though.

It sounds like B12 to me too.

Coeliac disease can cause B12d.

Right now I feel drained. I need to go to bed but I can't move from where I am sitting.

You can pop in to your GP and get a printout of all the tests you've had to see where you are in the ranges. You have a legal right to them.
Then post them on healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk.
Alot of us have learned that doctors saying normal just doesn't cut it if you feel terrible. If your ferritin is under 20, you'll feel exhausted but will be told you're normal range. The same for thyroid levels. Its hard but we know our own bodies and how we feel, so we have to persevere with doctors.

Softkitty2 · 26/03/2017 11:29

If you have the extra £££ get a private blood test done and check your vitamins and mineral level...

Make sure the gp has done basic checks and has checked your thyroid etc

Sunnysky2016 · 26/03/2017 11:34

Another one here saying b12 levels could be low, even though GP may say they are fine. Read up on it, look at the pernicious anaemia society website
