I know it's sweet of them but I just don't enjoy it!!

When myself and siblings were young we used to make our parents breakfast in bed for Mother's Day/Father's Day or sometimes just because we felt like being nice.

It made us feel good as kids to do something nice and be thanked for doing it.

I only discovered after I had my own kids that both my parents didn't really like eating in bed but graciously received our offerings because they knew we liked doing it.

We've done the same for our own kids. They were so happy to make us our "treat".........
If my kids had planned a breakfast in bed and I'd said not to bother they would be really disappointed.
I'd just put up with it. They won't do it for ever.

I tried to suggest that i'd rather breakfast downstairs but think ive lost the battle. They want to spoil me. Its sorted. DS1 (autistic) makes a half cup of tea with tepid water - hes done a risk assessment on hot water and it doesn't stack up, DS2 does the flowers and DD butters bread - cuts slabs of butter and then it forms holes in the bread.

Whats the equivalent of grinch for mothers day?

Busybusybust · 25/03/2017 20:41

I hate breakfast in bed too! Soon got mine trained to bring coffee, and then smoked salmon sarnies on a well laid table! Wonderful for all!

sirfredfredgeorge · 25/03/2017 20:52

Why would you just say "please do not bring me breakfast in bed." I don't get it?

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/03/2017 20:53

I dont mind the breakfast in bed bit so much as being awoken by having food shoved in my face and being expected to eat it immediately my eyes are open! I rarely eat breakfast and when I do its a good hour after I have woken up as I need a bit of time to get my head on straight.

However, as PP have said, its more about their excitement at wanting to treat me than the actual breakfast itself, so I smile and thank them and chow down on cold soggy toast :)

KayTee87 · 25/03/2017 20:58

Yanbu I honestly think it's pretty disgusting to eat in bed, horrible crummy bed Shock

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2017 20:59

Agree with mothers. Breakfast in bed is not about what you want.its about making the kids happy. Letting them do it because they think they are doing a great thing and making you happy.

Cmon, how long does it take out your day? And your kids feel like they did something for you and find it exciting. It's hardly intolerable. Go with it for their sake

I love my breakfast in bed on Mother's Day. The DC are teens but still love doing it.

It's a lovely start to the day. I can't get het up about a few crumbs.

Joolsy · 25/03/2017 21:07

I'm usually up well before DD1 (13) - DD2 is sometimes up before me but as she's only 8 I wouldn't trust/want her to make me anything. I wouldn't mind being woken at about 9 with a nice cuppa but chances are I'll be awake at 8 which would usually be 7 before the clocks go forward so I'll make my own!!!

MrsJayy · 25/03/2017 21:10

I can't eat first thing the thought of B i B makes me heave Dh knew this so it was always just a cup of coffee and cards in bed. You need to tell them or dad not to.

Scholes34 · 25/03/2017 21:16

I've been able to make sure that my kids don't see breakfast in bed as a treat they need to make happen.

Cup of tea in bed - yes.

Breakfast made for you, eaten whilst sitting at the dining table - yes. Washing up by kids afterwards - yes.

Breakfast in bed - not even on their radar.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/03/2017 22:42

Seems that breakfast in bed is a lot less popular and less of a nice treat than the adverts and popular opinion try to make out.

bumblingbovine49 · 25/03/2017 23:01

Well I like it. DH cooks it anyway with DS helping. What's not to like about scrambled eggs smoked salmon and toast, coffee and juice. Who cares about crumbs. I love lying in bed anyway so it is no hardship to wait for it to be cooked. Also DS brings his breakfast and we chat while eating.

I will feel sad when we don't do it any more.

Tinkerbec · 25/03/2017 23:07

My sis and I back in the day made my parents coffee in bed by running the hot tap.

We laugh now that they had to choke it down. I once caught my Dad pouring it down the sink. He said it was just the he last bit.
Good times

WorraLiberty · 25/03/2017 23:08

I never eat breakfast and nor does my DH.

But on Mother's day/Father's day, the kids loved helping to make tea and toast and arranging it on a try with a daffodil from the garden.

So once they'd brought it in, either me or DH (depending on whose day it was), would say "Ok come on. Let Mummy/Daddy eat it in peace while we go and wash up".

This gave us enough time to hide the toast in the bedside cabinet and just leave a few crusts on the plate Grin

One Mother's day I forgot about the toast and discovered it 2 months later, when I opened the draw to grab a spare light bulb for the lamp Blush

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/03/2017 23:09

Mine have never done it which is good as eating in bed is something you only do if you're too ill to get up IMO.

shirleycartersaidso · 25/03/2017 23:11

I don't like it either but the kids love doing it so I eat burnt toast and try and not get crumbs all over the bed!

NarcsBegone · 25/03/2017 23:23

If someone could carry me down two flights of stairs so I could have a wee then take me back up I would love breakfast in bed. I took pictures of every special breakfast ds has made. These are my favourites! The one with cheese in also had bites taken out of the sponge rolls and the weetabix with fork on a plate only had a little bit of milk because it 'fell off' coming up the stairs Grin
I'm hoping tomorrow I can just get up with no fuss and have ten minutes to try and actually wake up.

I don't mind BiB! But my sheets always get washed on a Sunday so I don't have to put up with crumbs. And I have a bacon sandwich and manage not to end up sprinkling my bed with mess anyway thankfully!

CakeNinja · 25/03/2017 23:30

Erm, Narcs, those look interesting 😂
