To ask what babies wear in summer?

DS is almost 5 months so has worn vests with long sleeve tops and bottoms or dungarees so far. Ive got some shorts and t-shirts for a week holiday abroad but for British summer what do people dress babies in?

I'm thinking in June/July/August he won't want a vest under clothes but do babies really wear short sleeve t-shirt and shorts?

Sorry for the daft question, ftm!

Deffo short rompers, they are so cute. Or shorts and t-shirts. Yes its fine.

Trumpssyrup · 23/03/2017 13:31

mine wore just nappies on the hottest of days! :)

Cosmicglitterpug · 23/03/2017 13:32

Short sleeved vests or just a t shirt and nappy on hot days.

TriJo · 23/03/2017 14:05

Light tracksuit bottoms, a vest and a t-shirt when it's around 20, lose the vest beyond that, shorts and t-shirt at 25-27 ish, t-shirt and nappy only at 30+.

The one day when it got to around 35 in London last summer I kept DS indoors during the heat of the day (5 months old at the time) and he only wore a nappy.

Rompers suit or t shirt and shorts if it's hot. I don't put a vest on them in Summer.

Longer trousers and a t shirt if it's cooler. Sweatshirt or cardi if it's really chilly

randomsabreuse · 23/03/2017 15:35

My DD always wears popper vests and at least shorts because it limits the ability for her to remove her nappy or guddle around in it while I'm busy going to the loo or something... dreading this summer as she can now remove nappies, trousers, tights, socks and loose tops...

KayTee87 · 23/03/2017 15:44

It really depends how warm is it. Sometimes our summer days are only 12 degrees (Scotland).
I would base it on what you are wearing so if you're comfortable in shorts and T-shirt then baby will be fine plus a vest underneath unless you feel very warm in your outfit (but can't take a layer off due to not wanting to flash) then skip the baby's vest. Feel their back and chest, if they're too warm take a layer off, if they feel cool then a layer on. Obviously keep them out of the direct sun and always have a sun hat & suncream on them.
Rompers / short dungarees probably easier than separate tops and bottoms.

I wouldn't bother buying heaps of summer clothes. When both DCs were babies we had one hot week where it was nappy only. The rest of the time it was the usual uk weather. It rarely gets hot enough here for romper suits and I'm in the south!

ImFuckingSpartacus · 23/03/2017 16:04

Yes I think some people are vastly over estimating what summer means!

DJBaggySmalls · 23/03/2017 16:05

We had a heatwave and I put DS1 in oversized t-shirts. Shorts would have been too hot over his nappy.

fruityb · 23/03/2017 16:08

You can get bodysuits that look like t shirts rather than vests. They have collars and everything 😊

BarbarianMum · 23/03/2017 16:25

Rompers.

I miss rompers. Sad

noeffingidea · 23/03/2017 16:25

Shorts and t-shirts, or one of those little body vest things when it's hot.
On a cooler day (and we do get quite a lot of them) probably a pair of joggers and a tshirt, with a little hoodie or cardigan. You can always take layers off if needed.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 24/03/2017 11:53

Little rompers, or just a vest.

I remember pushing tiny DD2 round Florence on a blazing hot day and she threw up over her gorgeous dainty little cotton frock, so we stripped her down to just a nappy. She was perfectly happy, gurgling away under her sunshade but the Italian grandmas we encountered were outraged. I'm surprised we weren't lynched in the street.

gedvile · 23/07/2018 08:32

We have clothes from merino wool with silk :) the fabric is very light and thin, so it's really good when it's +30C outside :) the fabric is breathable so the baby doesn't get overheated, but feels warm and cozy :) bought some cute rompers and bodysuits from a shop called Green Rose

HellenaHandbasket · 23/07/2018 08:44

Normally soft little dungers with nothing underneath, the skandi brands like Duns and maxomorra are very soft and light.

Or loose rompers from h&m type thing.

Or just a vest when really hot.
