Work colleague ordering inform...aibu

Figglesticks · 22/03/2017 13:44

Male work colleague has asked me what size top I want and then told me he'd be ordering the size up from what I asked for because he fits in a large and he "wants me to be comfortable".
Not sure he realises he's just insulted me but aibu to be annoyed by this?
Feel free to tell me if I am because I'm already in a bad mood and my weight it a bit of a sore spot for me. Fwiw I'm a size 8 in tops.

70 pounds for a teenager is incredibly light at 5ft2, and I think your skewed idea of that has changed what he is saying.

I think he is saying given you yourself say he is average build and is in a large that the sizing is small and therefore you need to go up a size from what you said. So a medium becomes a large for him, so if you are as you tell him normally an 8 that becomes a 10.

if you had said a 6 he would order an 8 and so on.

Op, maybe you need to get some help, five foot two is not that small for a woman, but to wish to be five stone, is not just unhealthy it's dangerous. In addition why as a grown woman would you wish to look like a small child? Missing that is concerning.

Maybe some councilling or such would help you here, that's no way to live your life wishing for something that could possibly kill you.

If you know it's unhealthy to be 5 stone (it is certainly is) but still miss it, I think you need more help. I know it's been said.

Size 8-10 sounds perfect for a 5 foot 2 person. I am 5'4 and more like 10 stone (which is too heavy but I don't look obese).

Trifleorbust · 22/03/2017 15:38

Yes, pp are right - missing being dangerously underweight isn't a good thing.

TheOnlyColditz · 22/03/2017 16:32

10 stone is not overweight for 5'4

MerryMarigold · 22/03/2017 16:37

Thanks Colditz, but I am very small-boned (size 3.5 feet) and have A LOT of flab

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/03/2017 16:38

The guy might just be genuinely trying to be decent. We have this issue with our uniform, they run very small (and the ladies are worse than the gents too.) We have size 8 super fit staff in mediums, we've only had one person fit in the small and she was absolutely tiny - size 4ish.

We generally get people to try each others if possible just so they see we're not calling them fat!

TheOnlyColditz · 22/03/2017 16:40

Bone structure is a very funny thing - I'm 5'2 and have size 6 feet.

MerryMarigold · 22/03/2017 16:43

Smile. I know. My Gran had size 13 feet, can you believe it? She was about 5 foot too. She was like a bird. I have tiny wrists and hands too. It doesn't do me any favours as online BMI never seems to take bone structure into account.

timeisnotaline · 22/03/2017 16:52

5 stone is dangerously skeletally thin! 8 stone is a neat size 8 ie SLIM for my 5'4'' height and you are talking about half that. I was a skinny 15 year old at 7.5 stone. You really should seek some help if you genuinely think 5 stone or even remotely near 5 stone is a good adult weight.

scottishdiem · 22/03/2017 17:10

Does he order for everyone? Has he been doing it for a while? Does he know that the sizes (of which no two companies actually use the same scale) are often one size bigger? Does he then adjust accordingly based on feedback from other colleagues and your predecessors?

Only when you have all the answers to those questions will you be informed enough to decide if he was insulting you.

Or you could just try the uniform on when it arrives?
