Lying about child's age for free admission

Costing out a day trip to the zoo, now that DC has turned two have to factor in their ticket cost. DH says that we should just say he isn't yet two so it's free, and that everyone does it. Just wondered what the general consensus is on this? I feel bad lying but see his point that DS is still pretty young and could end up napping through a lot of it so won't necessarily benefit.

OP posts:

you'll always know the trip was dishonest

It keeps me awake at night and my children's lives are scarred

Trifleorbust · 18/03/2017 18:17

Deadsouls: No, I do understand it. If there were posters saying, look, I've done this, I was a bit desperate... I wouldn't say a word. I'm not actually a judgey person. What bothers me is the 'nothing wrong with it' attitude of some posters.

ILoveDolly · 18/03/2017 18:18

I once took my 5 year old to a lovely castle where entry was free for under 5s. Ticket lady and I are both agreeing she was 4, lady was winking knowing it was a fib, dd was absolutely insensed because she was so proud of her age! Also prompted very awkward convo with her about when it was ok to lie....

Deadsouls · 18/03/2017 18:19

Okay well I don't think there's anything wrong with it. So we disagree.

picklemepopcorn · 18/03/2017 18:20

I have no issue with the choices other people make. I'm not planning on reporting everyone on the thread to the police for having naughty thoughts and intentions!

I have a lot of respect for the people who have popped on to say 'I do, it's the only way I can afford it' and 'I do, it's ridiculously overpriced'.

I have less respect for people who say it's fine because it's fine.

There are loads of situations I might choose to cheat, lie, steal. As a younger person I routinely lied to get out of trouble, because I needed to. Now I am older and have more control in my life, I have less need and I choose not to.

It is cheating, don't delude yourself. Make the choice you want to make.

Middleoftheroad · 18/03/2017 18:22

Fully expecting some lazy DM journo to pick this thread up.....

Trifleorbust · 18/03/2017 18:22

Deadsouls: Clearly. What I don't get is how you can think there is nothing wrong with it. I'd understand you doing it, but I can't understand your belief that it is just.

Deadsouls · 18/03/2017 18:22

OP look what you started Grin
Who knew this issue was so decisive?!

pollymere · 18/03/2017 18:22

These prices are often based on assumed height so theme parks don't charge as they can't go on much. You're fine as long as he doesn't pipe up I'm two really!!

Catsize · 18/03/2017 18:24

trifle, I think we are up against the 'who gives a damn about anyone else, as long as I'm alright' brigade.
They probably disapprove of benefit cheats and shoplifters but do not see that they fall into the same camp.
If you can't afford something, you don't have it.
Congrats to the person who DID defraud Disneyland and didn't pay the same as their fellow more honest guests. You must be very proud. I did not want my DD's birthday marred by fraud, but we have different standards.
And no, we should not have to accept that dishonesty. Accept that people like that exist? Yes, because clearly they do. Accept that what they do is okay? No, because clearly it isn't.

MsGameandWatch · 18/03/2017 18:24

What bothers me is the 'nothing wrong with it' attitude of some posters.

Well that's just tough really isn't it because in common with many others I believe there isn't anything wrong with it and nothing anyone on here or anywhere else will make me think otherwise. I honestly couldn't get so worked up by an alternative viewpoint to mine on this matter. I do find the blind and unquestioning obedience to authority on MN and this thread in particular interesting though it does seem excessive compared to RL, someone once explained why MN attracted those kinds once but I have forgotten Grin. I'd honestly hate to be so uptight and frightened about everything or maybe I wouldn't hate it because I would be so narrow I wouldn't know any different.

Trifleorbust · 18/03/2017 18:25

MsGameandWatch; You were correct before - I don't talk to you.

justaminutedarling · 18/03/2017 18:27

I have a friend who does this constantly. Pisses me right off. My DD is younger than hers, we have less disposable income but we pay. Always. And then have to watch her blatantly lie at the gate and feel that we've somehow subsidised HER day out!!

She even trains her kids to lie if they're asked. That's a charming lesson to teach them... Hmm

MsGameandWatch · 18/03/2017 18:28

You just did 😊

SookiesSocks · 18/03/2017 18:28

Oh dear Mrs you are also on her pathetic list now. Soon she will leave MN as she wont be reying to anyone Grin

Deadsouls · 18/03/2017 18:28

Hands up who ever steals a plastic bag without paying 5p

ImFuckingSpartacus · 18/03/2017 18:29

It's only relatively recently that the notion has developed that everyone is somehow 'entitled' to theme park/zoo type trips

Yes you're right, you should keep those for the richer folk, keep the riff raff out altogether!

Those of you so high and mighty that you care about a family pretending a 3 year old is 2 to get a day out need to get a life. And I wouldn't be so proud of your morals if you care more about massive corporations and their profits over children getting educational experience.

Personally I think its immoral that so many people can't afford such things, but thats me being a "dishonest, lying scumbag" apparently. Morals means maximum profits for money making corporations, minimum fun for poorer children, to some of you.
You can keep those kind of morals, they are nothing to be proud of.

MsGameandWatch · 18/03/2017 18:32

Hands up who ever steals a plastic bag without paying 5p

Always Smile

Trifleorbust · 18/03/2017 18:32

Deadsouls: Why would I? It's 5p! I wouldn't steal it if it was a fiver so I'm not going to make a thief out of myself to save 5p Blush

Deadsouls · 18/03/2017 18:33

trifle you're clearly a very very good person

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 18/03/2017 18:33

Hands up who ever steals a plastic bag without paying 5p

Never

You bad bunnies Hmm

Deadsouls · 18/03/2017 18:34

I must be in the bad, dishonest, fraudulent camp

ImFuckingSpartacus · 18/03/2017 18:34

I always carry my Bags for Life to hide my shoplifted goods in

Trifleorbust · 18/03/2017 18:34

Deadsouls:

I'm really not, but I don't steal! Why would you nick the plastic bags??

Catsize · 18/03/2017 18:34

spartacus, how/where do you draw the line? Is it right that family A saves for a trip to the zoo and pays the right price but family B in similar circumstances commits fraud to get in? And may have to get their children to lie too?
I think the poster who put about entitlement was spot on. Like the entitlement to a foreign holiday that there now seems to be.
This thread is quite depressing reading.
