I have a friend who I've lent about £80 as she's been in and out of work and is always running out of gas and electric!

She also makes dummy clips for babies on the side!

I'm visiting my family soon, my sister has a one week old and has asked if I could get a couple clips made for her £3.50 each, so £7.

I've asked my friend and she's saying that she has to charge me! We're in a dispute as I say she should take it off what she owes me, where as she is saying it's two different transactions and that I have to pay!

Surely I'm not being unreasonable!!

You are not being unreasonable- she should do them as a thank you really for helping her out when she needed it.

Your friend sounds very mean. She should definitely do them for free and just take it off what she owes you. Don't lend her any more money!

How long ago did you lend her the money and did you say when you needed it back?

Two different transactions? Then tell her you need your transaction to be settled, then you'll pay her for the clips. We had a similar situation with SiL (several hundred pounds) and also now with another friend of DP's, (£1,000).

The beaded type of dummy clips are illegal and unsafe. I'm guessing if she's doing this on the side she won't have bothered with things like tax, insurance or ce testing.

She clearly needs the money as she should worst case take the 14 pounds for the clips off the eighty quid and reduce the balance and basically pay for the clips herself. She's acting like it's a proper company she's running and she's not.

What she should really do is what sunny said and make them as a thank you and still repay the eighty quid. I would not lend to her again. She's not being nice.

As for the money side of things, you are not being unreasonable, but I would not buy untested and potentially dangerous dummy clips anyway so I would cancel the order.

Yanbu, I agree she should do them for free. The two desperate transactions crap is her excuse for taking the absolute piss. Why does she have to charge when she still owes you money!? Her outlay can't be that high.

I'd get used to the fact she's probably not intending to give it back and make it a resolution not help her out financially again. At least you know what she's like now, money has a funny way of doing that.

Sod that. Tell her you can get them cheaper on Amazon so you'll have the cancel her order and order through there as you can't afford to splash out until she pays you back.

^This. Unless she's had all the relevant tests and checks done I wouldn't risk the safety of any baby with one.

Well as it's two seperate transactions, she can pay you back your £80, than you can pay for the clips.

If she is making the clips from home, how can you be sure that her products meet the safety standards required? I would steer clear. A one week old baby doesn't need a dummy clip and if I did buy one it would be one with a Kitemark.

Ask for her to start repaying the money she owes and cancel the order.

When did you lend her the money? when does she intend to repay you? call in the debt NOW then order the dummies and pay her late

This sounds like she is bejnf unreasonable, but it does depend on the terms of your loan to her. If you weren't meant to get your money back for a couple of months, I'd see her point. If she is meant to have repaid you by now, she is being ridiculous.

Don't lend her anymore money, she is not your friend. Cancel the order, and get the baby something nicer. My son did not use a dummy, not all babies do.

I would never buy accessories for a baby that aren't made by a professional company that conform to EU safety standards.

She's supposed to be paying back when she has the money, but that literally is never, so I've written it off, but I wouldn't expect to have to pay!

I am going to cancel the order I think, and then distance myself! Not worth it.
