4 negative preganancy tests and missed period

I am over 2 weeks late for my period, i have done 4 different tests including one in the nurses office before a smear and all have come back negative.

i am on the pill although i will admit i have taken it late on a couple of occasions.

i have noticed i am feeling a weird sensation in my stomach and am slightly constipated, my moods are also erratic at the moment.

am i being unreasonable to think i could be pregnant?

its not the best timing as i am due to get married in december and have a honeymoon booked but we did plan to start trying on honeymoon so its not the end of the world.

When i was pregnant the first time (twins) i was very emotional immediately and had an aversion to smells and went off my food.

i dont want to get my hopes up but it does seem likely.

Several points to consider
1 - it's a withdrawal bleed not a period and can't be relied upon as a marker for pregnancy or otherwise.
2 - it can be normal to occasionally not have a withdrawal bleed.
3 - you're now into the next packet so bleeding likely to be suppressed until you finish this packet.

Don't panic, you're very unlikely to be pregnant.

What Munchy said-

Basically, from what you've said your period isn't late. You're on the pill and you've just missed a withdrawal bleed.

When you're not on the pill, your body ovulates, the egg is released, and when it doesn't get fertilised in a fairly fixed amount of time, your body releases hormones to cause the womb lining to be shed- a period.

When you're on the pill, ovulation doesn't occur. The withdrawal bleed is just what happens when you stop taking the hormones for 7 days - it's not the same as a period, we just call it that because the effect is the same.

If you run two pill packs together, you can skip the withdrawal bleed, so the fact you're taking the pill every day means you won't have a withdrawal bleed until you next take a 7 day break. If you don't have one on you next seven day break, you can ask your doctor why.

This can get messed up if you're not taking your pill every day, but there are different levels of messed up- e.g. You could have breakthrough bleeding, but not actually ovulate. If you were to ovulate because you hadn't taken the pill properly/had been sick, it's not v likely you'd ovulate at exactly the mid-point of your cycle.

I've forgotten to take the pill on weekends away and missed a couple of days (when I wasn't using it for contraception) and had weird symptoms as a result. You're putting artificial hormones in your body to trick it into thinking you're already pregnant, that's how the pill works, so when those hormone levels get messed around it can make you feel weird.

I'd say it's unlikely you're pregnant, or that anything is wrong, but once you have your next pill break you can check with the doctor if there's no breakthrough bleed then. Don't worry too much though- I really think GPs should be clearer about how the pill actually works.

Thankyou Appalazian and Munchy! not going to worry until my next break in the pill and see what happens

This happened to me, turns out I had thrush and no symptoms. The GP did a swab and diagnosed it, said infections can stop a period.
