To think £36 is an acceptable amount to spend on a kitchen bin. Sorry boring.

So our kitchen bin is cracked. It was a cheap £10 ish one which only lasted a few years. Our holiday home has a metal pedal bin with a plastic liner. This is also flimsy imo.
So I choose a hard plastic pedal bin which looks sturdy. I commented that it looks much sturdier. Dh said well I should hope so for 36 Quid. I than mentioned reviews and he said the company probably posted them.
Aibu to think he is a misery guts and the price isn't excessive.
We can afford it too.

I hate kitchen bins! They're all ugly and another thing to clean. We have a bucket in the cupboard under the sink. Having a bin would ruin our u shaped run of cupboards.

King of the bins right there.💗

AnoiseAnnoysanOyster · 17/03/2017 08:19

I have a Brabantia one and it's lasted much much longer than the cheap Asda one we had before.

sonlypuppyfat · 17/03/2017 08:20

My friend always has a carrier bag hanging off the kitchen door , when it's full it goes in the wheely bin

dowhatnow · 17/03/2017 08:23

I still get pleasure from my expensive bin. It's still in perfect condition years later.

TipTop333 · 17/03/2017 08:25

I spent around £35 on a sensor no-touch bin and it is fucking useless and after just a couple of years has finally broke which is brilliant because I can't prove this but I am convinced the piece of crap absorbs smells no matter how hard I scrub it.
I would pay well for a good bin. Definitely.

supercue · 17/03/2017 08:28

I've always had cheap bins, but when we had a new kitchen fitted 4 years ago I decided to get a bin I loved. It cost £120 and it's perfect, probably the best value I've ever had from spending that amount of money.

My bin gives me pleasure every day, not many things I can say that about. Smile

DeadGood · 17/03/2017 08:30

Bins that work properly - assuming it has a pedal - are worth the money IMO! £36 seems reasonable.

When DC were small I had to open the cupboard, unclip the safety lock, pull the drawer out and then deposit contents. Turned a simple task into a two-handed PITA. I was so happy when we got a foot-pedal bin!

MiladyThesaurus · 17/03/2017 08:31

We always had cheap bins too but got a £160 simple human one when we moved into this house. It really is much better than what we had before. DH is s bit obsessed with the bin (still, several months later).

TipTop333 · 17/03/2017 08:34

I've just seen the Joseph Joseph 3 part recycling system can anyone lend me £200?

yorkshirepuddingandroastbeef · 17/03/2017 08:34

£36 for an item you look at/use every day is not expensive.

I bought a cheap £5-ish pedal bin for our bathroom and it is falling apart/looks cheap and nasty. Waste of money.

CotedePablo · 17/03/2017 08:35

I have this, and it was worth every penny. I got it after folk raving about it right here on Mumsnet.

To think £36 is an acceptable amount to spend on a kitchen bin. Sorry boring.
ohtheholidays · 17/03/2017 08:36

We spent the same on our kitchen bin and it's really easy to empty and clean and it's Duck egg blue and it looks gorgeous in our kitchen.

If you can afford it then why not,I could understand your DH moaning if you were skint and that was the same as your weeks food budget but your not so tell him to stop flapping his gums Grin

XiCi · 17/03/2017 08:38

I think £36 is really reasonable. I take it he just never buys anything for the household and therefore doesn't have a clue how much anything costs.

And there's no way you can get a decent kitchen bin in poundland for a pound.

Silvercatowner · 17/03/2017 08:39

I have a Simplehuman bin that cost over £100. I love it. No more replacing cheap plastic bins every few months.

I once had a quote for a new kitchen that included a cupboard with some varying size plastic bins for recycling. They wanted £450 for the bins. We went with another kitchen and have a £10 plastic bin in the cupboard under the sink.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/03/2017 08:44

I think 36 is pretty reasonable we've had numerous cheap ones that broke

We currently have the simple human butterfly one with split compartment for recycling. this one, 170

Eatingcheeseontoast · 17/03/2017 08:45

Maybe produce less rubbish...

caffelatte100 · 17/03/2017 08:47

I am another fan of Brabantia. Last ages, a pleasure to use and look good as well. People can just buy whatever they want obviously...

bertsdinner · 17/03/2017 08:49

My plastic swing top bin cost £12 in Homebase 10 years ago. The lid gets a bit manky every now and then but I just wash it. It's not the most attractive bin but its tucked away.
I dont think £36 is expensive for a bin.

Natsku · 17/03/2017 08:53

My kitchen bin is a (probably) cheap bucket with no lid (its in a bin cupboard but we took the door off the cupboard when we were fixing the kitchen and can't be arsed to put a new one on Grin No issues with smells, we just empty the bin every couple of days. Fuck spending anything over a tenner on a bin!

ToEarlyForDecorations · 17/03/2017 08:55

I purchased an eight quid 'bullet' bin from ASDA last November. It was ok until the lid broke after 2 months.

I've got a 'swing bin' i.e. swing lid one now that's ok.

highinthesky · 17/03/2017 09:00

I'm not a big spender but I don't think £36 is too much to spend on a kitchen bin if you're heart is set on it.

Says she who spent £30 on a 30L kitchen bin 16 years ago that fits in perfectly with her kitchen decor but never gets used.

QueenofallIsee · 17/03/2017 09:01

Our kitchen bin was more than that - they are quite expensive in my experience. I would say yours was a cheap bin!
