To wish schools would give more notice when asking for money?

Letter home for an amazing trip last night. Large chunk of deposit got to in within ten days. A hundred pounds might not be a lot to some people but mid month it is a lot to us! It makes me sad as actually with a bit more notice dd could go. This follows the previous school offering the trip of a lifetime with a £250 deposit 5days before Christmas with another £250 due first day back after Christmas.Sad I suspect aibu but it makes me sad she will again miss out.

DDs school given next to no notice for stuff. A few weeks back we had 1 DAY notice for something that had to be paid. That was a mistake as the teacher said she had forgotten to give the letters out the week before but that still doesn't make it any easier finding cash from nowhere in a day. I could forgive this as a one off but even with the proper notice periods sometimes its a day or two. When they got school photos done..they came back with the order slip things which said they had to be returned 2 days later with full payment. I don't think its too much to ask for a bit of notice, especially for larger cash payments...

A teacher once did that at dds primary thereal. The one and only time I went nuclear...

Yanbu. It drives me mad. Like I can magic £100 out of nowhere in 2 days. And the actual cost is ridiculous. DS1 went to NYC for 5 days, stayed in a hostel, no food included - cost me £1500. Did the exact same trip couple of years later with same DS - went for 7 days, stayed in a hotel with breakfast included - £1800. WTF ??

TheRealPooTroll · 16/03/2017 14:19

It actually made me not want to pay them anymore school and I always have paid no questions asked. It would be unfair to ds though. I bet it always the same few children on the list and they probably get teased.

My Dsis school asked for £50 just before xmas within 3 days of receipt of letter for a GCSE geography trip and my mum could afford it but complained to the school because its not fair on families with a tighter budget. Its ridiculous that some children have to miss out and feel isolated because of poor notice from the school. YANBU.

Thoughtless buggers they are.

TheRealPooTroll. So whats the point of having all the kids in the same uniform so they all look the same and the poorer kids cant be singled out (cos this is the main reason given for school uniform) if they are then going to single them out publicly for not paying a "voluntary" contribution.

And yet schools expect parents to consider that the schools are on a budget so why is the courtesy not reciprocated in a lot of cases.

And yes it also is likely to lead to bullying.

It drives me up the wall as well
