My friend's having a party tommorrow and I stupidly said I'd bring something sweet for the (many) vegans attending.

I don't want something like fruit salad as I know she always makes loads.

I want some kind of little individual tarts or cakes or muffins.

I like baking but every recipie I find online has something weird in it like agave nectar, cow breath...or chicken's hopes and dreams....what can I make with easy to find stuff?

Try the Minimalist baker

randomsabreuse · 16/03/2017 09:28

Crumble works well with vegan baking block, as does pastry with 50/50 trex and baking block.

Those were my main fallbacks with dairy and egg free DD.

Which easy-to-find vegetable fats are truly vegan? As User147 says, many seem to have small amounts of milk fat. Knowing what to look for in advance would save my squinting at tiny print.

Is there any way of printing off a complete thread? We have a vegan DIL and there are so many great suggestions on here.

Pure brand spreads are vegan

LaContessaDiPlump · 16/03/2017 09:47

Pure spread is good, TrickyD - Tesco has it, as does Sainsburys I think. Sainsburys is generally v.good for free-from stuff, but Tesco is scampering to catch up and recapture this apparently lucrative market Wink

This is why we now have fat Vegans. Hey, I was fat before; I knew the Secret of Oreos Grin

CMOTDibbler · 16/03/2017 09:50

Trex or Stork baking block (not in the tub) are vegan. For soft margarine, theres a Flora plant based one now, or Pure.

TrickyD · 16/03/2017 10:01

Thanks very much for the vegan fat suggestions. Particularly useful to know about the Stork baking block. Oreos are vegan! Wow.

This chocolate cake - all of the ingredients are things you'll have in your storecupboard and it's delicious.

Serve with fresh fruit and Alpro dairy free yogurt/custard/cream/ice cream.

Pineapple upside down cake with vegan caramel sauce

Or just add whipped coconut cream if the sauce feels like a bridge too far.

Pannacotta made with coconut milk and agar agar - flavour with vanilla pods and serve with a fruit compote and toasted almonds.
Chocolate and avocado mousse is gorgeous and easy to make. Plenty of recipes on the internet. I don't have my own to hand!
Vegan meringue made with chickpea brine (aqua faba) and fruit and whipped coconut cream.
Vegan brownies- I use this recipe- It's the best I've tried. I add pecans to the mix and serve with raspberries and whipped coconut cream:
www.food.com/recipe/vegan-brownies-19282
Or a fruit fool- layer berries or fruit compote in a glass with whipped coconut cream ( there it is again ) and sprinkle with toasted nuts.
Good luck!

TrickyD - you'll never look back or see your toes again Grin

I've had to stop buying Oreos as I eat too many!!

Yes Vegan choc mousse with just TWO ingredients. It's the easiest thing ever.

nelipotter · 16/03/2017 12:22

Do little layered cups or martini glasses (or similar) with frozen berries and coconut yoghurt - sprinkle shaved dark choc on top and a swirl of maple syrup or sprinkle of cinnamon.

No cooking - takes two secs - can prepare at their house in two minutes if you don't want to make it before hand!

Use raspberries, blueberries, blackberries - hell, even frozen mango is great!

nelipotter · 16/03/2017 12:23

Also thanks everyone - there are some awesome recipes here!

repaintthesky · 16/03/2017 12:29

Bananas injected with rum, they are very hipster I'm told.

KaosReigns · 16/03/2017 12:50

www.instructables.com/id/The-BEST-chococlate-cake-ever...that-happens-to-be/

Made this today, without the glaze and used coffee instead of water. Whipped coconut cream between two layers, icing sugar and berries on top.

Doglikeafox · 16/03/2017 12:54

Can't get a link but google 'BBC good food avacado chocolate cake' it is absolutely delish, vegan and can be gluten free if you want to! No weird ingredients either, and if you don't want to go to the faff of making the icing then most Betty Crocker icings are vegan X

Ceic · 16/03/2017 13:41

Easy?

Box of Betty Crocker Cake Mix + 300ml fizzy water. Or a can of fizzy juice - this chart has US suggestions.

Otherwise, Rose Elliot's Chocolate Torte is also easy and impressive. Oreos are vegan and so you could use the biscuits for the base and decor.
