To dislike red nose day

Just seems to be people doing it for their own personal gain (even if that is just to feel good about themselves), more useless plastic that will end up in landfill and take ages to degrade and more junk food to a nation where 70% of adults are obese or overweight.

I wouldn't mind but its hard to avoid if you have kids, its pushed onto them both at school and in the media.

I agree. Im sure it goes against what mn think but i totoally agree (puts on flame proof clothes)

Even if some people do take part in Comic Relief in order to "feel good about themselves", the money raised still goes to fantastic causes, awareness is raised, children are encouraged to think of others...hard for me to see that negatively.

It's a bore fest of celebs. Just give quietly every month to charity.

Not sure I see the connection with plastic and junk food.

I'm always on the fence with people doing stuff for charity.
On the one hand there is an obvious need for the money that's raised, I don't think many people would just give money otherwise.
On the other I get fed up with people wanting to do something for themselves but getting everyone else to donate.

Not at all sure about comic relief overheads and the huge amount of plastic. Better than nothing, but my donations also go to more efficient charities.

Can't bare it op. Ds has to "wear red" which means I'll have to go and buy him something red, as the only red clothing he owns is his uniform.

We have "Wear red and donate a silver coin day" this year, so your getting 5p! Plus my kids uniform is red anyway?? So if I send them in blue do I not pay??

Don't get me wrong I'm all for charity, regularly give to nspcc but the endless celebs telling us to donate "whatever you can" pisses me off!! How about they donate a couple of million each??

I don't care for it either. Nor children in need or dry January or any of them. Charity is big business. They sit on a lot of the money in investments.

There's a list somewhere online of charities that it is actually worthwhile giving to.

I'm the same. Really get annoyed at celebs begging the public to give money. I'm sure they do donate and everything but I feel like it really pulls on people's heart strings and people who can barely afford to look after themselves end up donating money they can't afford. This is general though, not specific to Red Nose Day but generally I feel the same!

I don't like that a portion of the donation goes to line the pockets of the already wealthy with the charity only benefitting from a small percentage

Contrary to popular belief, most celebrities aren't stinking rich. If by lending their support they can help to raise several million, I can't see the problem.

The celeb thing really annoys me. I had a friend who worked for a charity as a fundraiser and she said so many celebs were more than happy to front a campaign or do some publicity but getting money out of them was impossible. Since hearing that it has made me very cynical about the whole thing. I know there are some very generous celebs, but I wonder if all of the ones who get involved actually donate anything

I agree that it is a celebrity borefest.
It doesn't inspire me to give to charity. I give what I can to a few chosen charities (not a huge amount I admit), but charities I know enough about and how the money is spent.
I would rather read a newspaper or magazine article about a particular charity (or charities) then watch a celebrity on tv talking about it.

I hate it as well. There are better charities out there and the plastic for landfill is just grim. I am incredibly uncomfortable with the videos they use to get people to donate as well. This charity highlights why using such emotive videos reinforces stereotypes

I hate them too. If all the "celebs" gave 1% of their yearly earnings to these causes they wouldn't need to bother the public, who can often ill afford to donate.

I also hate the way they tell you how much you should donate rather than leaving it entirely up to you.
If I want to donate, I'll do what I already do, and give by dd on a monthly basis.

I do question exactly how much of what's raised actually goes to the cause and gets used (not just sitting in an account somewhere or spent on expenses/wages, etc).

It was a good idea when it first started, but now it is far too commercialised with retailers jumping on the bandwagon to be seen to be doing good (it's just another marketing campaign) and 'celebs' getting their face out there on telly.

Junk food, mars are sponsoring it or in some way very involved and have got their logo all over the place along with bake sales.

I don't even get this "Take a picture of your bake and upload it to either facebook.com/Maltesers or another social media platform of your choice between 1 February and 24 March, tagged with #bakeamillion. For each Maltesers bake, Maltesers will contribute £5 towards a total donation of £1 million."

They what? if they are giving a million anyway what is this £5 per tag? Just promotion?
