13 month old getting up at 4.20 every day..nothing but nothing gets him back to sleep! If your kid was like this..what age did they start sleeping longer?

Twins here, both early risers when toddlers. At 9 my DD sleeps in but never after 8. DS is still an early riser even at weekends and school holidays he wakes between 6 and 7 and mostly before 6.30 however he helps himself to fruit and a yoghurt. Usually watches minescraft videos and is happy to amuse himself until.we get up.

DS was a 5:30 start boy and he is always last up now and has been for a good few years (he's 7 now). DD2 is 1 and a 5/5:30 girl so I really hope she goes the same way. Anything with a 4 at the start is still night even by my fairly lax standards!

4 and a half years in and I'm still waiting from an answer...

We have a 5.30er here. Nothing shifts it. I have a dirty parenting secret. On weekends I put the laptop in her room, stick the 2 hour you tube peppa pig on and go back to sleep for an hour or two.Blush

I think my dirty parenting killed the thread!

Sorry early risers here and it has never got better 12 years on. 5.30am is average. Got used to it in a way.

soundsystem · 16/03/2017 08:41

Mine's two and a half and can entertain herself in her room for a bit before coming to get me. So I still get woken early - usually by her singing - but at least I have time to collect my thoughts before she jumps on me!

heron98 · 16/03/2017 08:42

I'm 36 and still get up at 430 every day - sorry! I am afraid I never grew out of it.

Until about 3 years old you'll have to get up with him. Be boring. Later, it goes like this: "DS, you are up and it isn't even 5 yet, brilliant! So much time to do useful stuff. Put on clothes, we don't eat in pyjamas. Sit up straight, please. Use your spoon. Pop along and clean up the spill. After breakfast, we will practice your phonics/ timetables /french vocab. Then you still have an hour to tidy the bookcase in your room." Stupid o'clock adventurer deflated? Tell him he can alternatively have a banana and go back to his room to play quietly until he hears your alarm clock. Works a treat.
