That's it really.
I am a bit disappointed with her tbh.

OP posts:
flyingwithwings · 11/03/2017 21:01

Noticed you said boys school !

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2017 21:02

The majority of pupils who take maths A level get an A

I bet they do. I understand that grammar schools make sure anyone who isn't on track don't get into sixth form/don't progress to Y13.

BertrandRussell · 11/03/2017 21:02

A seriously uncool presumption. I suggest you ask to be deleted.

flyingwithwings · 11/03/2017 21:04

Bertrand it does not matter as school is not Colyton ....

BertrandRussell · 11/03/2017 21:15

It does matter. Trying to out people is unacceptable.

Stillwishihadabs · 11/03/2017 21:19

Really noble ? I hadnt heard that, where did you get your figures from ? It certainly wasnt my impression.

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2017 21:31

Have you not seen the entry requirements for grammar sixth forms? Rather higher than normal sixth forms.

flyingwithwings · 11/03/2017 21:34

I am not trying to out anyone !

If i mistakenly posted a thought that came in to my head, without taking an analysis of whether that was a 'politically' correct thing to post I am sincerely sorry.

Stillwishihadabs · 11/03/2017 21:36

But not if you are already in the school noble.(off to google)

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2017 21:37

Er, you don't automatically get into a sixth form just because you're in a school already.

Stillwishihadabs · 11/03/2017 21:40

Yes the yr 11s dont need to re-apply. They need an average of 48 which is somewhere between an A and B- isnt that what you'd expect for the upper 25%?

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2017 21:42

That's an entry requirement, still. A really high one.

goodbyestranger · 11/03/2017 21:58

All my DC have automatically gone into their sixth form at a superselective grammar noble, absolutely regardless of GCSEs, along with their entire cohort.

That said, 48 is a very low bar for a grammar, not high at all.

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2017 22:04

I've certainly seen threads on MN, posters DC not making the grade to get into the grammar sixth form, and DC being chucked out at the end of Y12 for not doing well.

It happens in other sixth forms too, but to say that DC in grammar sixth forms get excellent results at A-level as if it's a simple reflection of how good the school is, is disingenuous.

Here is an example of grammar school asking for 'normal' GCSE grades !

NOTE
: If a student achieves a grade 4 in English or Maths where grade 5 is an
entry requirement, there may be flexibility subject to a meeting with the Head of Sixth Form.

PlanIsNoPlan · 11/03/2017 22:14

Like OP originally asked - I wonder what TM's plans are for...secondary moderns, Brexit, w.h.y? - well we are gradually finding out as she is formulating them still. She didn't create any of the now we are dealing with, but picking up the reins and getting on with the horse that we are.. I'm sure a lot of MNers in the same situation would have solved everything by now, with all opposition subdued etc, above any criticism, etc, all perfectus uptheiraresus, thinknottus. Bloody feckin hell, too self-absorbed to see that we have a very capable woman at our helm, irrespective of political persuasionn, we should bloody appreciate that.

goodbyestranger · 11/03/2017 22:14

I didn't say that noble but you stated something incorrect about entry to and retention in grammar school sixth forms as a universal truth, so I corrected it.

flyingwithwings · 11/03/2017 22:17

ntry Policy & Requirements
General Sixth Form Entry Requirements

All internal and external applicants must achieve grades A*-C (or new GCSE 4 grade) in at least five GCSE subjects including English or Maths GCSE (or equivalent), with at least a grade B or new 5 grade in any subject to be studied at A Level. Some A Level subjects not traditionally taken at GCSE level have their own entry requirements, and these should be checked in the 'Individual Course Requirements' section below. For students presenting with vocational qualifications, e.g. BTEC first, these should be at least at Merit level. Where there is evidence that special circumstances have prevented a candidate from achieving one or more of the grades required, the Second Deputy Head teacher may use their discretion and admit the student.

Stillwish - top sets maths students at DS' comp are doing Further Maths GCSE, and I don't see the advantage in setting them off a year early. This is top set, high performing Maths students, and if high performing kids are doing GCSEs a year early I think it underlines my point that it is the curriculum that is lacking. It should stretch them within the intended years.

Anyway, the grammar where peers kids go is doing the same work that my DS;s school is doing - and that is true. Actually.

Oh, and they (the comp) have a huge extra curricular offer too. With trips. And a fantastic orchestra, award winning dance and debating teams etc etc.

Or until the funding cuts bite, they do.

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2017 22:44

Ok, I didn't know about these 'grammar' sixth forms that have normal entry requirements and offer GCSE resits and BTECs. That's not really what I would class as a grammar sixth form...or do kids that are so bright that they need a separate school aged 11-16 suddenly need GCSE resits and Health and Social Care post 16?

SoulAccount · 11/03/2017 23:20

The sixth forms attached to comps around here demand As for all sciences, maths, and English Lit.

Bs for other 'facilitating' subjects.
