Really would like to see Beauty and the Beast in the cinema. WIBU to pick a daytime showing (when its most empty) and go with my EBF DD (3months) ???

I generally hate the cinema though as there is always someone with a phone one/rustling sweets/fidgeting so I'd rather stay home with a dvd and cheaper snacks.
Baby crying would bother me less ☺

Do you have an Everyman near you? Their baby club is amazing - coffee and cake brought to your seat, and there are generally mums jiggling in the aisles!

trufflehumper · 09/03/2017 20:28

petit sadly not... that sounds awesome though. Who wouldn't want cake and coffee on tap?

I took my then 3 week old to see Lion, just popped him in a sling and he slept the whole time. Taking him and DD to see Beauty and the Beast when it's out, I'll leave if he kicks off though!

We have been to the newbies screening at our local Odeon a couple of times. Once when LO was about 3 month old (Trolls) and once when she was 5 months (Passengers). it was brilliant, no judging (except by the single bloke who clearly wasn't told it was for babies and toddlers!!), could get up and rock baby, feed, lights up and not as loud. We are hoping for BatB in a couple of weeks and can't wait!

Our local cinema does 'Babes In Arms' showings for some films for parents with babies to attend. If they had those when ours were babies I'd definitely have gone!

A woman brought her baby in when I was watching Hidden Figures the other day, and although it's not a particularly noisy film I did think it was a bit load for a baby. So unsurprisingly it did wake up and cried, and she shushed it. Ok, it wasn't that loud or for long but I did judge her for staying there as she obviously didn't want to miss the film so did so at the others viewers expense

A baby and parent showing though, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at a bit of squawking and shushing, I'd assume that came with the territory and I'd get payback when it wasn't child's turn to make a noise. Assuming it wasn't yelling it's head off admittedly

We always go to the "early bird" showing at my cinema (full of children) as it's £4 per person.

I would go. Get some ear defenders or something to stop it being so loud for the little ears. Chances are at that age, they will just sleep. If not, boob will keep them occupied!!

I went to see Minions with my kiddies, and my then-breastfed daughter fell asleep half way through because she wanted boob. She was 2 at the time.

I went to the cinema with my 7wo last week. It was fine. I fed her once and she slept the rest of the time in the sling. I sat on the end so I could take her out if she cried.

whippetwoman · 09/03/2017 23:14

I took DC1 to see The Fellowship of the Ring when it came out (years ago now) and it was fine - that's a long and loud film, but she didn't cry and seems to have no long-lasting trauma. I waited until it had been on for an age and went to a daytime screening, sat at the back and walked around at the back. I was one of five people there!

I took 4yo ds to see Lego Batman on a Tuesday 11am showing and had the place to ourselves. Choose your slot wisely! Was helpful when ds kept seat hopping and then lay on the floor in the aisle!

MetalMidget · 09/03/2017 23:36

We went to see Doctor Strange at a parent and babies showing! :D

It was great - the babies would make the odd squawk, but nowt horrendous. I wouldn't take him to a regular showing though.

trufflehumper · 10/03/2017 11:36

Okay. Definitely going to go for a parent and baby showing if poss and then brave the regular early morning slots if not... feel more confident now having heard others experiences. Thank you.

Hope you can find one to suit, truffle, even without coffee and cake! The local independent cinemas are pretty good where I live too. Enjoy Smile

I have recently taken my baby to the cinema, to see Ballerina at a showing for kids (not sure if the volume is slightly low) and the Lego Batman movie - around 8 and 9 weeks old. EBF baby too.
We wore her in the stretchy wrap and when she got a bit wriggly she would have a feed then lay in my arms either watching the screen or a light or something, or sleep.
You could always book seats at the side by the aisle to discreetly leave if necessary.
As for volume, Lego Batman movie was loud, but it wasn't a thriller with pauses and sudden noises or anything to make the audience jump. I can't say whether BATB won't have that either but I'd love to see it too.

Doesitreallymatteranyway · 10/03/2017 21:55

Breastfeed her if she becomes unsettled. It bailed me out on countless occasions. She'll have her mum on a tap and you'll love the film Smile. Try it being prepared to leave but you won't need to. Then once you have done it once you would have cracked it.

firawla · 10/03/2017 22:21

I'm taking mine to beauty and the beast, she'll be 12 weeks. She went to Lego batman when she was about 5 weeks and she was fine! Im making the most of it for now as I wouldn't take a more mobile crawling baby
