To think that people living on welfare shouldn't be running off every five minutes for a new tattoo or piercing?

I'm probably going to get shot down for this, but I just had a little disagreement with a woman I know. She posted a photo on Facebook of a rather large tattoo on her forearm that she'd just had done. Last month she had skin divers put in her chest and hand. The month before she had another shit tattoo.
This individual is single and has two children. She hasn't worked a day in the last decade, but is living off the state. Am I being a bitch by thinking she should spend the money she receives on feeding the children and keeping a roof over their heads? I noted that she feeds her boys Pot Noodle for dinner but makes sure she's got her fags too. It just annoys me.

Do you have a job OP or do you live off your husband?

I have worked since I was 14 years old, thanks. I run a successful online business from home now that I'm a mum of 3. Between my husband and me we pay the top rate of tax.

I've never heard of a uniform allowance and certainly do not get one

Catlady1976 · 09/03/2017 23:51

Well it includes public sector pensions but not state pensions.
Expect much of it is Mps and civil servant pensions. Not quite the same as JSa or tax credits.

🍿I brought enough popcorn to share. 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

Lots of schools have a uniform allowance.

PortiaCastis · 09/03/2017 23:54

Oh I'll make a claim

Go for it Smile

I remember school uniform vouchers in the early 90s, but they're long gone.

Redpoll · 09/03/2017 23:55

State benefits I am afraid are not for tattoos, phones, cars broadband or anything outside of that which sustains health, that was the charter as it was intended all those years ago.

If the Tories would only get tougher they would soon see they will create better Tories and more support. To have overweight parents, covered in crap tattoos picking children children up when most people are at work seems to be a fact of life at the school gates these
days.
It's worthy of the trait a 100 years ago during the First World War when ladies gave out white feathers to those not in uniform.

It would seat better among the more sensible members of the U.K. population if more children were taken from people as discussed above so they can be brought up better.

It such a shame so many kids these days must grow up and suddenly come to an age where they realize what a waste of space their parents are.

Yes, see this is who's thread annoys me. While I do not agree with the op, there is so much desperate misinformation.

PortiaCastis · 09/03/2017 23:57

Nobody has mentioned the benefits cap and the hoops of fire you have to go through to claim a single penny

Dawndonnaagain · 09/03/2017 23:58

Very often these women have contributed to their deprived position by forming relationships and trapping themselves with children to unsuitable, violent feckless men.
Yeah, it's always our fault, isn't it. Hmm

Late to the thread, but that quote that Dawndonnaagain has just quoted...

That is fucking breathtaking Shock

Catlady1976 · 10/03/2017 00:05

Today I spent £500 on car repairs. I can afford it (well our family budget can). I would imagine that anyone on JSA for longer than a few months wouldn't have a hope of keeping a car.
I can't agree on broadband. It is fairly essential to job search and for kids homework. If on JSA you have to job search daily or be sanctioned. Fine if you live near a library but pretty stuffed if you don't.
Incidentally when workfare operated a friend of my dsis had to work 40 hours per week for his 70 quid and still job search.

nceccoli · 10/03/2017 00:06

There's another very good reason why the state should not be funding endless benefits. It's all very good in the short term to say the children should not be punished for the parents'fecklessness and have to go without. But when children grown up seeing their parents not working, slobbing around, covered in tattoos, changing smoking and yet somehow they always have the latest electronics, money for tattoos, alcohol, what ambition or direction will these children have?
The message they will get is that they can lack ambition, they can refuse to try, they can be slobs and yet still get the money to sustain their lifestyle and luxuries, which must not be denied as they deserve dignity and choice.
And some posters claim interested generational laziness is a myth. Like children of such parents will miraculously gain ambition and desire.
I watched my mum struggle to bring me up due to my dad's addiction issues. I watch my parents live with constant debt. They both had solid working class jobs marred by my dad's bouts of addiction when he would not get paid and incur debt and the whole cycle would start again. Our furniture and electronics were all second hand. Either hand me downs from wealthier relatives or purchased from yard sales. No money for holidays or luxuries.
I swore I would do better. I pushed myself to obtain qualifications, stayed child free and today I have a fairly good income and can afford some luxuries. I do believe some level of deprivation can act as a motivating factor sometimes.

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 00:06

I note that the posters in agreement have a good case to argue. The rest is just a steady stream of vitriolic 'my money, I'll do what I like' responses. Speaks volumes.

Inter generational laziness

Owlzes · 10/03/2017 00:08

Yeah. Why do we give them enough food to get fat on? They should receive a weekly food parcel of carrots and brown rice and l Iike it!

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 10/03/2017 00:08

As do ypur posts, allfurcoat.

PortiaCastis · 10/03/2017 00:08

The state are operating a benefits cap and only the first 2 children attract any benefits from April.

Catlady1976 · 10/03/2017 00:09

I thought the pupil premium was supposed to pay for school trips for those on FSM so why would she pay if she is not required to?
