To wonder why children's clothes rarely come in age 8-9?

Sorry, I'm online shopping and need to vent. I have a tall 7 year old. 7-8 can be short but then generally most stores (I'm looking at you Boden and m&s) miss out 8-9 and the next size is 9-10. Which is huge.
Frustrating. Anyone else? Am I supposed to not buy clothes between age 8-9? I know it's a 1st world problem 🙄

The size skipping starts at 6 in most shops,. So you can get 4-5, 5-6, but not 6-7 as it then goes to 7-8.

Tesco sell in those ages, 6-7, 8-9 etc, but not many others do

Don't really remember having a problem with 6-7. 8-9 seems to be non-existent. Next do single age sizing but it's all a bit meh.

Age 9-10 is impossible to find.

All I see is 9-10. It must depend on the store I suppose. Maddening though.

My 7 year old DD is in size 8-9.

She has quite a few things from M&S in 8-9, casual as well as school uniform, maybe it depends on the item as to whether that size is available?

A lot of her clothes at the moment are from the Sainsbury's TU range, size age 9. You can shop online with them now as well as instore. Also Debenhams bluezoo do 8-9, again online or instore.

H&M don't do 8-9 but I find their 9-10 is smaller sized so I buy bits from there for her too.

I find that no matter what age my kids are that at the very moment you decide they need a new item of clothing, (I'm thinking school uniform in particular) that the said item of clothing mysteriously disappears in the size that you need it in in every shop in the land. Same is true of the need for a new bra. I have also found aged 8 to 9 impossible to find.

M&S do 8-9 though not in underwear as I noticed which seems a common theme. Most high street shops I buy for DD seem to stock 8-9 or 8-10 in case of H&M. Sainsburys and John Lewis do age 9 which is 8-9.
I also have a tall 7 yo, she got some vouchers for her birthday and we ended up buying 9-10 in some things as the 8-9 just fit now.

I don't go by age, just by size.
measure your dd and then go from there.

Knickers definitely. If I need grey school trousers in 9-10 they have grey trousers in every other size and millions of black trousers in 9-10 but none that are right! It's a conspiracy.

Since DD was a baby every time I went to buy something for her that was needed - pants, uniform, tights etc I can find every other size apart from the one she's currently in!

I have an 8 year old ds and I agree age 8-9 often doesn't exist, but it doesn't help that different shops sizes can vary wildly! Fat Face (ds favourite) come up small as do Next (rarely find anything nice in there), Boden sizes are completely unpredictable, could be huge could be tiny, Joules run small, George at asda are large. Basically I need ds with me on try clothes on, and ordering online means I will almost certainly be returning the items.

Emailed Boden, they said lack of demand. But if more people requested they could look at doing 8-9. By which time dd would probably be in 11-13 and I won't give a monkeys! 🙄

I just bought 8 yr old dd 9-10 clothes from Zara. Fits fine ( she is nearly 9)

No matter what size my children are, their clothes only come in two sizes, too big and too small...
Ds is just outgrowing Sainsburys 7-8, Zara age 8 is huge, H&M 8 is too small, and can't find half his clothes as tall 5yo dd nicks them.

Try H&M or next.

I needed to buy some new knickers for DD from M&S. The 7-8 is too small for her and the 9-10 was massive! I need to find another store. Very frustrating as can't drive at the moment so am relying on guessing online sizes...

Boden are skimpy. My tall just turned 8yo has been wearing their 9-10s for a while. Most places do have an 8-9 though (or a 9, which is the same thing) I get most of my kids clothes from the supermarkets and they do.

European sizing goes by height of the child; usually with room for growth built in (so if the child is 7 years old and 1.26 m tall you buy 128 cm = 8 years. In many brands sizes start to skip a year from about 8 years, so 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10,12, 14 etc.
