Leopard print in the office?

alexa1789 · 08/03/2017 11:20

Advice please...

I'm wearing a leopard print top at work today. The top has thin straps but is not low-cut or sheer. I'm wearing it with a long black pleated skirt and black tights. My make-up is very neutral.

I just bumped into a senior manager at work and he joked that I look like I'm "off to Ibiza" today - I guessed this was a comment about the top. We work closely together and he's a nice guy and would never have meant to offend. I laughed with him but now I'm worried my appearance is unprofessional today and I'm planning to spend the rest of the day wrapped up in my massive shawl.

I hardly think I look like I'm off on a night out but maybe leopard print in the office is a no-go? What do people think?

@BillyButtfuck - similar, but the straps are a bit thicker and the neckline higher. I really like yours, might get one to add to my work wardrobe ;)

It doesn't break my work dress code and people wear similar things (I would never have worn it if my office was always suited and booted), but I guess what's fine for one person looks inappropriate to another.

Oh well, lesson learned! In long sleeves today and enjoying not being shrouded in my massive thick scarf :)

I wouldn't wear it coz I think leopard print is hideous (sorry!)

I doubt the man meant anything by it though.

BellonaBelladonna · 09/03/2017 13:01

Leopard fine. Thin straps not work appropriate.

Bluntness100 · 09/03/2017 13:08

but generally speaking people don't wear strappy tops.,,,,dress code and people wear similar things

meettherussians · 09/03/2017 13:09

Leopard print turns some men funny. We wear it all the time here but we are in fashion, darling Grin

TeethDrama · 09/03/2017 14:53

Russian - I said the same upthread! Grin some men definitely associate it with racy ladies. Even quite sensible men do.

JigglyTuff · 09/03/2017 15:09

That pic looks like a swimsuit. If your top looks like that, it's unprofessional

Elendon · 09/03/2017 18:34

I agree JigglyTuff

HighwayDragon1 · 09/03/2017 18:42

Leopard is fine, but not the straps. My mum always told me "knees and shoulders" at work, as in both should be covered

Oblomov17 · 09/03/2017 18:49

Omg that top pictured by another poster is completely inappropriate workwear OP. How can you not know this?

Strappy tops in general are totally inappropriate at work.

HesterLee · 09/03/2017 19:04

Surely it depends on what type of environment you work in?

TheRealPooTroll · 09/03/2017 19:42

I've never worked in an.office environment where a smart, thin-strapped, high neck top wouldn't be allowed. I don't think you can compare it to mens tops as I don't think smart sleeveless mens tops exist and also - armpit hair!
I think your colleague was.more likely referring to the weather. I was wearing a t shirt and 2 jumpers today!

TheRealPooTroll · 09/03/2017 19:44

In fact the last office I worked in a ruffled cami tucked.into smart trousers or a pencil skirt was basically the summer uniform.
