Would you sit in a cafe after ordering coffee to take away?

It was a Costa with no price difference between sit down and take away prices.

DH and I popped in with DD2 in the buggy. She's 10 weeks old. We ordered coffee to take away but by the time we'd been served DD had fallen asleep and we sat down to have our coffee in peace and have a chat. Even if we'd know she'd sleep we still would have wanted take away cups in case she cried.

A friend thinks I was unreasonable and shouldn't have sat down.

So just wondering - as there was no price difference - would you sit down??

I sometimes use my cup when I'm sitting in, it depends on whether I know I'll have time to finish my coffee.

Wow, didn't expect so many replies. DD is not being co-operative today and keeps crying and won't sleep. She's exhausted and the window of her having a nap in peace is closing as I have to pick DD1 up from pre-school soon.

I always ask for a takeaway cup because I take ages to finish my drink so having a lid keeps it warm for longer.
The girl in my local Starbucks once told me she doesn't mind as it saves them washing up! YANBU

I do this most mornings before work. Order cappuccino to take away cup but to sit in for 10-15 mins. I see a few people doing that.

In the Costa at the station the man asked me if I was drinking in or taking out. I paused and then launched into a long complicated explanation about how I was drinking in but if dh turned up before I finished I might take the rest of it on the train. He laughed his head off and told me it didn't actually matter! So now I just say sitting in but can I have a take away cup which is always fine...

I order to drink in but in a take away cup - I'm clumsy plus drinking coffee a big coffee mug not always practical with a 4 year old who has to sit in lap!!!

As no price difference it shouldn't matter to anyone whether you drink in or take away

MinisWin · 08/03/2017 22:01

I personally always go for a take-away cup these days for fear of tipping coffee all over tiny DD in the middle of the inevitable epic breastfeed she'll then insist on....

Derlei · 08/03/2017 22:35

How does a whole non-event of where you drank your coffee even come up in a conversation with a friend?

AlwaysLookOnBrightsideOfLife · 08/03/2017 22:35

Haven't read full thread. YANBU. I normally ask for it to sit in but in a takeaway cup. Means I can take it with me as I usually don't finish it before needing to leave.

Not asking but no price difference then you're grand to have done so.

lovetonamechange · 08/03/2017 22:37

??? How is that unreasonable? I always get a takeaway cup in case I want to leave before I finish at stations etc

RedSoloCup · 08/03/2017 23:23

As someone that works at a coffee selling place (not costa) frankly we don't give a feck what you do once you've paid, we just need to know what cups you want it in 😂😂 and we prefer throwaway as they're more convenient

PointlessUsername · 08/03/2017 23:26

I prefer takeaway cups.

Due to having a 7 year old with a short attention span, I often tell the guys who make my coffee that I am sitting in but would like a takeaway cup incase I have to leave before I am finished. They have no problem with that. I don't see the issue.
