AIBU to think that Dork Diaries is not a suitable school book for 7 year old?

extract from 7 year old dd's school reading book

"I almost died when she actually got paint on my favourite shirt. OMG! I had a hissy fit right there on the spot. Okay, I'll admit it. That spot of paint on my shirt WAS kind of small. But the last time I watched Judge Judy on television, she specifically stated, parents are responsible for the damage their child does to the property of other people. And that's the LAW, you @!%$& IDIOT!!"

do any other mums think that this is not appropriate or am i being too snobby?

I don't necessarily think reading slightly older content is a bad thing. I remember being quite young reading books that were at the right ability for me to read, but content was a bit more mature. I enjoyed the fact that I was trusted to read what I enjoy, and I think generally if a child can comfortably read the content, then they can process/deal with what its actually about.

DD (9) reads these, I hate them with a passion, I think they are shallow girly tripe.... BUT.... DD loves them, and while I do monitor the Jacqueline Wilson books for content, these are more just frothy meh sort of things... unless the content matter is too mature, I try not to limit of censor her reading choice. She's read all the HP books! And then this rubbish!

But I can always recommend Mr Gum , especially the audio books read by Andy Stanton!

You just need to pick your JW books with care - she has written a huge number of books aimed at children of all ages from emerging readers to young adults.

She's. Just 8 and reading the 9-11 ones as they're in the school library!!
