Savings how much

Greatballsofedam · 06/03/2017 14:17

So there are a few threads going around about money and how people can't cope on what they earn
My question

  1. what do you earn
  2. what are your outgoings
  3. how much is left at from your salary's at the end of the week/month/year
  4. how much in savings do you have

I am just interested to see some answers

I earn £32k working 4 days a week and DH earns £43k full time.
Household expenditure with mortgage, bills etc is around £1700. We have to spend around £400 on DH commute each month, £720 on childcare and a shocking £600 on clearing debt. I contribute to my company share save scheme to the tune of around £75 per month.
Left with around £550 spends between us each month.
£2k in savings (saved from previous bonuses etc)
Life will get much easier when debts are paid off....unfortunately we're paying the price for reckless financial decisions in our early 20s and we're around 4 years away from being debt free apart from mortgage. Still it's not all bad - we did have a fucking awesome time racking it all up Grin

This is quite a civilised thread - nobody has been made out to be the devil incarnate for being successful.

There's still time, I suppose.

We've not long got out the other side of this situation IAmLionTamer. No regrets here either, our 20's were amazing!

Interesting thread.

I think the pay gap is so massive because companies are willing to throw cash at the top earners. I have a friend who turned down a job for around £80k and the company company came back and offered him another £20k.

If you are at the bottom of the ladder then they are doing the opposite. A 'very good' company I previously worked for advertised my job last year for the same salary I was earning when I started in 2006. The job has since grown and the workload is higher. How does that work? Confused

I'm not saying a salary of £80k is top earner by the way!

Joint income of around 25k.
Bills about £800/month including mortgage.
Food bill around £60/week for two adults and two cats.
We save around £300 a month between us, currently have about 5k i savings although 1k will go on a holiday which is booked.

  1. 33k inc salary and money from my property which I let (2k per month ish)
  2. however I pay rent and mortgage so outgoings approx £1100 not inc food
  3. have £100 per week spending money plus save £300 per month (£100 into mortgage and £200 into savings account)
  4. just moved house so 2k savings currently

I'm single and no kids. Having a property makes me less concerned about having lots and lots of savings.

This thread is bonkers, some of the incomes being quoted are amazing!

Re MN being anonymous, it certainly isn't that anonymous if like me, you don't namechange regularly. I like my name so keep it, but over the years I've disclosed my general area of living, my job and my (Pretty identifiable) medical history. It wouldn't take someone who thought they knew me an awful lot of searching to confirm my identity. I don't care about that because I don't post anything I am not happy to be out there. That's why I wouldn't share details of my income or savings though also it's all very middle of the road and distinctly uninteresting

Income is £4500 roughly between us net per month. Save around £1000 a month. Mainly in pensions.

Earn roughly 40K between us (was about 60K but DH took redundancy a few months ago).

Outgoings about 1K per month as house is paid for and we have no loans/debts.

About 105K in savings (managed find stocks and shares ISAs so get interest on that).

Overall I spend about 50-60 per week on good and household products for me, husband and a three year old.

We love comfortably and don't feel we struggle financially.

DH earns 35k but that has only been for the last couple of months. I earn 19k (pt). Our monthly take home pay is 3k

wow surely take home pay more than that?

Doyouthinktheysaurus I wouldn't dream of disclosing medical information, my job or anything identifying and frequently change my name. For the purposes of this thread most people will name change so no-one will be any the wiser. You don't seem that disinterested in the thread though I must say Hmm.

Doyouthinktheysaurus sorry just read back and see you are saying that your savings are distinctly uninteresting rather than the thread in general!

Not necessarily, not if student loans/childcare vouchers/pension contributions etc are being paid directly from salary.
Before having children I earned £56k and my take home pay was £3200 due to student loan/company share scheme etc

i get 140 a week smp, 225 a week tax credits and then 137 4 weekly child benefit. single parent of a 2 year old and a 5 month old.

savings are non existant and things are tight

Wow. The salaries on here are huge!

The cost of childcare over 7 years has destroyed any savings we had. 4 days childcare for 1 child is £1200. For a while when it was 2, double that. Dipped into and completely saw off any savings to see us through.

  1. Joint income £70k
  2. Outgoings £3400 per month (childcare easily outstripping mortgage)

3.savings £3000 - just about to pay for holiday so will only have £1500 left. No real safety net in case of car repairs, house repairs.
4.food bills £80 to 100 per week.

Things will be better soon. We have so much to do house wise - damp problem in bathroom, hall, living room. No carpet in hall ways. All a bit depressing. Roll on saying goodbye to nursery fees.

  1. 80k joint
  2. very low - no mortgage or debts so just bills. We don't have Sky to etc.
  3. it depends, usually a few thousand.
  4. 20k, premium bonds (not sure how much), children have savings.

Now we don't have the mortgage we're aiming to buy more houses.

I don't know what DP earns as it's none of my business as long as he can pay his half of the bills. If his earnings are none of my business (after children and house together) then I'm sure they our income in not the business of strangers on tinterweb!
