To assume all MNers are UK based?

Grin

I've come unstuck before thinking that everyone benefits from the same NHS etc....

OP posts:
HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 06/03/2017 01:25

I used to be in the UK but have been here for just over 6 months.

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 06/03/2017 01:32

Australia here, for the last six years but was originally UK when I joined around 8(?) years ago.

KeyserSophie · 06/03/2017 01:38

There are a lot of overseas MN's (self included). However, as MN is largely a UK forum, it is unhelpful when overseas MN don't clarify their location, ask advice and then when people go to the effort of explaining how a certain system works (e.g. referrals for children with SEN) then say "I'm not in the UK". In most "advice" posts, location is relevant.

I think if you calculated UK residents plus people living overseas who are British or who have formerly lived in the UK for a significant amount of time, it would be well over 90% of posters.

SpoofersAreLosers · 06/03/2017 01:38

There were some posters arguing about the wording on their house insurance in one thread where it turned to it one of the posters was from overseas which was probably the reason her home insurance had different wording to everyone else's. 🙄😂

I assume nothing when it comes to posters.

Oceangirl82 · 06/03/2017 01:46

Left England on a boat in May 2014, made it as far as Panama going to transit the Canal tomorrow. We still have a house in England and fly home about every six months.

harrypotternerd · 06/03/2017 01:54

I am in Australia, never lived in the UK but my cousin is in London

TheClaws · 06/03/2017 01:56

Australia. I don't bother with NHS/specific education/etc. threads obvs. Otherwise the themes are universal, aren't they?

kiwipie · 06/03/2017 01:59

Aussie here!

kiwipie · 06/03/2017 02:00

But English born n bred 🤗

accendo · 06/03/2017 02:00

I'm an Ausssie.

iogo · 06/03/2017 02:03

Brit in Canada here. I do tend to assume British posters unless the OP specifies.

LatinJules · 06/03/2017 02:16

Greetings from Chile!

avamiah · 06/03/2017 02:18

No

geekymommy · 06/03/2017 02:20

Yes you are. Hi from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

BradleyPooper · 06/03/2017 02:35

Yes, I'm in Texas and was previously in Singapore, although I'm British. I do appreciate the Britishness of MN, it feels comfortingly like "home" although the contributions from non Brits or those living overseas give some good alternative perspectives.

VimFuego101 · 06/03/2017 02:40

Brit in the US; there's no American MN equivalent. There are mom mum forums but they're all too twee for me.

BananaInPyjama · 06/03/2017 02:41

dual national here- Brit/ Aussie.

I know all about the NHS and most things but some have changed since I left so am a bit perplexed by HV and their demonic status for one.

HicDraconis · 06/03/2017 03:15

Another dual national - born in England, but moved to NZ 8 years ago and now definitely a kiwi.

I pop back reasonably often - some things have changed, some things are the same, some things are way worse than I remember (like my god the roads and driving were never that bad!). I don't tend to comment on the education threads because I left the UK before my boys were school aged. I've read a few of them and I'm quite glad we did now!

HappenedForAReisling · 06/03/2017 03:19

Joined when I was living in the Middle East, now living in Canada. Am British though.

Toadinthehole · 06/03/2017 05:40

Kiwi here, although UK-born and bred.

(waves at Hic)

Glastokitty · 06/03/2017 05:48

I've posted on Mumsnet while living in three countries.

Thefitfatty · 06/03/2017 05:51

Canadian in the UAE. I've only ever visited the UK. Grin

blibblibs · 06/03/2017 05:58

Brit abroad here. I would never start a thread now asking about school/nhs/police etc because things just aren't the same here and I'm not sure there are enough mners here to get a useful answer. And if/when we go home I can't imagine starting one either due to how good I'd have it compared to now Wink

CoolCarrie · 06/03/2017 06:18

I am in South Africa, but from the UK.

echt · 06/03/2017 06:33

Another one in Australia, though most of my life spent in the UK.
