My children are all but one in secondary school, frankly quite boring independent and want to do their own thing. I find myself almost grieving for their childhoods, looking back through photos and remembering the good times etc.

To get to the point I have become very nostalgic about my own childhood and I am searching up some of my old toys on ebay Blush As they are now considered vintage they are prohibitively expensive.

Some of the things I have lovely memories attached to are:

Lights Alive
Keypers
Sweet Secrets
Diary Milk dispenser thingys at Christmas
Gloworm

Just yesterday I got this sudden flashback to a swimming bag I had in primary school, it was transparent PVC, from Primark and had a beach scene on the front with liquid for the sea (you could squish the liquid IYKWIM) and a plastic beach ball. At the time it was so amazing and I loved it so much that I even stapled the seams together when they split Grin Does anyone know what this type of bag is called (with the liquid inside) I spent ages googling but haven't been able to find it.

My nostalgia is mostly related to items, but what are your items/experiences that make you nostalgic about your own childhood?

Care Bears - the 80's ones, not the new ones
Beautiful Sunday magnetic pencil cases - my father threw mine away and they are really expensive now!
Scented rubbers (erasers not condoms)
Strawberry shortcake
Jem with her flashing earrings and amazing funky silver clothes

I wanted a keeper thingy so badly, but I never got one :(

I had a blond haired sindy ice skater, my sister had the brunette ballet dancer. I had absolutely loved Sindy, they are so pretty compared to todays dolls.
Its great seeing stuff you've forgotten about but that are then so instantly familiar like the Midland bank stuff above!
I still have my family tree house, which I played with for hours as a child.
Loved Heartbreak High, Byker Grove and Jossie's Giants.
Cheese spread sandwiches remind me of being a kids and watching Newsround at tea time.
I can't help feeling we treasured our toys more back then because we didn't have as many.

Trevor they weren't, but I had some of those too. They go for a fortune on ebay now.

The ones I had were hard bodied.

I adored my polly pockets, had a massive collection. Stupidly gave the lot to DSD thinking she would enjoy them too. She's barely ever bothered with them but somehow still lost most of the fucking polly's and broken half the houses. They're all original version so considered vintage now and would cost a small fortune to replace. Heart broken.

Sindy !!! Sindy house with the lift up the side, sindy ballerina with the bendy feet, sindy beach buggy, sindy horse - I had the lot. My brother's Action man lived in the sindy house too.
Also tiny tears, Simon, girls world, reading Look in and Jackie and watching Dogtanian and Battle of the planets.

Cleanermaidcook · 05/03/2017 21:02

I remember playing out with my mates and going just where we wanted.
Making dens in the field and trying to grow peas from a packet of frozen ones Grin
Simon says game
my roller skates
sindy ( i saved up for her massive house)
clackers (broke your knuckles)
Pierrot bedding
Those clingy little teddy things that i clipped onto my curtains
Mostly though the endless freedom of going out on my bike and coming home when it was dark
(child of the70's)

I had a little red/yellow plastic house that had two blue windows and a handle so you could carry it. It had a little cat figurine. Cannot for the life of me remember what it was called but I loved it (early 80s) would happily may thousands for an hour playing with that whilst watching SuperGran and eating a pyramint.

londonrach · 05/03/2017 21:59

I go back a long way. Like many of you, I remember the sense of freedom, the sense of community and the feeling that adults were to be both feared, respected and trusted all at once!

We made our own fun mainly, but some classic toys are still going strong such as Meccano, Lego, Sindy etc.

I remember "Childrdn's Hour" and Blue Peter, Animal Magic, Vision On and -horrors- the Singing, Ringing Tree, which scared the life out of me.

chipscheesentomatosauce · 05/03/2017 22:20

Lots of things, but this was the first thing I thought of. One of my earliest memories is my dog standing on it and breaking it Sad

My hubby's a toy collector so it's nice to talk girl stuff!!

I loved gel pens, groovy chick stationary, polls pockets and I had the bluebird kitchen too! Got it out the loft the other month in its original box but I'm too scared my son will loose all the pieces just yet!

Loved watching all the shows mentioned especially the Queens nose and Aquilla

Always dreamed of getting a dream phone (I did the other year haha!) And enjoyed summers playing on homemade stilts! My parents kept a lot of our stuff just regret selling my barbie horse and carriage and I'd love to find my polly pockets and my troll collection!

I had the awful inflatable backpack lol. Then everyone ditched them for the Donnay shoe bags. Also had the Clarks shoes with the key!

Thanks for the memories!!!
