I'm prepared to be flamed but I get very irritated by people referring to "the floor" when they mean the ground.

Go on.

Roast me.

I don't care.

I hear people referring to "the floor" all the blooming time when they mean "the ground".

For example:- "I was walking along the road and I dropped my purse on the floor

No you didn't - you dropped it on the ground.

Yes, I know I'm being horrible but I can't help it.

I'm Scottish and I have never come across this floor/ground phenomenon. Confused

As a rule of thumb

Inside = floor
Outside = ground

BiscuitMillionaire · 03/03/2017 17:44

Agree. They are the same people who say lay when it should be lie. Eg 'I was laying on the sofa'. Urgh

eddiemairswife · 03/03/2017 17:49

The buffalo/bison joke only works if said in a Black Country accent.

Sunbeam18 · 03/03/2017 20:31

Yeah, this totally bugs my mince! Scottish here

Glad others have mentioned the ceiling/roof one - my ex always (even now after me continually threatening to kill him for it) refers to the ceiling as the roof. Worst bit is when he's telling me about the 'ceiling' he'll actually say something along the lines of 'yeah I need to paint the roof [notice my glare] ceiling [points upwards] first obviously'.
