To not say I'm part time?!

Help!

Hugely nervous about a job interview, it's would be a transfer through civil service and the job advertised was for full time but due to fair and sustainability they have to also say they offer flexible working, part time and compressed time. I am technically part time. At what point do I mention this? Do I tell them in the interview before they have made any decisions or should I not say unless asked then once I have been offered a job detail my working hours? I don't want then to fee like I have wasted there time but I also don't want to lose the job just down to my hours 😰 what's right here!

Well in first case yes I waited til offered, agreed job couldn't have been done part time. With second I had two interviews, on the second we went round the houses a bit and they really probed and it eventually came out I had had two maternity leaves and was currently working 3 days. They said it offered the job what would you want to do, I said 4 with two early finishes to pick up kids. They said yes - it's hard I know recruiters hate being messed about but it's not easy being a working mum.

I suppose what part of the civil service you might be applying for - if it is the DWP all contracts now say that you are required to work on night a week till 6.30 (soon to be 8pm) and one Saturday in 4.
Staff can ask for restrictions on this contract but they are to be reviewed on a regular basis as to whether or not the business can accommodate.

What do you mean by technically part time? You either are or you aren't.

I worked PT in 1 civil service department and applied for a promotion to another. The job I applied for stated it was full time but said applications from part time / jobshare would be considered subject to business need (this seems to be the standard phrase on most civil service job adverts)
At the interview I told them my working pattern and asked if this could be accommodated in the promotion role, the interviewers said the issue would have to be raised with HR if I was offered the position.
I was put on a reserve list and contacted a couple of months later with a job offer, once I had that I negotiated with HR so that I could remain part time but I agreed to change the days I work. I was told that due to discrimination law they have to consider part time applications, but it boils down to business need as to whether a part time worker will actually be offered a position

I'd tell them. Can you meet with the recruiting manager beforehand?

I interviewed for a few different jobs last year. I've been a civil servant for 5 years and work full time but work 4 long days and 1 half day (at that time anyway). I was offered a fantastic job but had to turn it down because the could not accommodate my hours. From then on I always met the recruiting manager for coffee before applying because I didn't want to waste my own time if they couldnt accommodate me (I work in ministerial offices so the expectation is very full on hours). Before long I found out who were more than happy to consider me because my hours would actually work well with the manager's. Turns out it was the perfect fit for me!

If it's just this job that you really want then go ahead and don't mention the hours until if they offer the job, but if you're actively job hunting then save your own time and be upfront!
