Has anyone had any experience of telling landlord they can't pay rent this month

Hi. I've name changed for this but have been around for ages.

My fiancé has an executive wife who he had an agreement with to payback negative equity on a house they used to own. They were both making payments out of their own bank accounts. It seems that she has declared herself bankrupt and yesterday the Halifax cleared out his entire bank account to cover both the payments.

All of my contribution towards the rent and bills was already in his account so that's gone too. Both of us already have loans and are unable to get anymore so today we have the unenviable task of telling our landlord that the rent will not be paid today, does anyone have any experience of this? How did it go? What was their reaction?

Could work give you an emergency advance? My work would do this (assuming I was reputable which I am!)

Overthinking, a paupers wedding is loads better than living on the streets.Well done

It's spunking it up a wall when you're living hand to mouth like that with NO cushion at all, not because you cannot afford it, but because you chose to spend it on something as frivolous as a wedding and an engagement ring.

I know, expatinscotland. An engagement ring! A wedding! "Would it not be better if they spent more money on wholesome things like oranges and wholemeal bread or if they even, like the writer of the letter to the New Statesman, saved on fuel and ate their carrots raw?"

I am a landlord, my tenant did this one month, I was fine with it as things happen that are beyond our control sometimes.

If the XW s declared bankrupt surely selling the house makes more sense, otherwise this will happen every month, or he will not be able to pay and do more damage to his credit rating.

I'm glad you got it sorted OP, you must be feeling so much better. Money troubles are so stressful.

Hope the wedding goes well. I'm sure you can find a nice dress somewhere else.

Hello again. So on Friday my fiancé was chatting to his boss and the company have given him another months pay as a loan to be paid back over 6 months. So everything is fine! I went for my dress fitting and was able to order my dress. I'm so happy! Thank you for all your help and support, you all really helped me through a difficult couple
of days.
