£60 a month for water is ridiculous, right??

Posting here for traffic... Sorry for the dull subject matter!

Just received new water bill for the year, almost £60pm direct debit. Up from £43pm.
It's a rateable value bill, now thinking of switching to metered bill. Anyone have any experience of this working out cheaper? Only DS and me in smallish 3 bed semi.

I cannot fathom how the bill can possibly be £60pm! Will get on the phone tomorrow but wondered if anyone would care to share their experiences of water meters?

TIA

Ours is that for a 2 bedroomed flat. We really need a meter!

I live in a HA property in West Yorkshire. The water charge is in with our rent and its £45 a month.
There's Dh, me and teenage ds.
I have to pay it. I've argued I want a separate water bill from Yorkshire Water but they say it's included in my rent and that's it Angry

Im in norfolk here and pay £17 a month on a smart meter...me and 2 teens.....

ZombieApocalips · 02/03/2017 17:18

I pay that and have 3 teens constantly in and out the shower, gazillions of plates and cups in the dishwasher and a million clothes being washed.

We moved to a house with a meter 10 years ago and were surprised by how much cheaper it was than our old water rates. At the the time there were 2 adults and 2 teen and the new house was much bigger (2 council to bands higher) with more bathrooms and toilets.

Argh!
Really wish I'd looked into this earlier, I've paid £43pm for past 8 months and stupidly didn't really think much of it. Its only now this big increase has come through that it's spurred me on to do anything about it.

Our water usage is pretty low I think, shared baths daily, approx 1 dishwasher and washing machine load a day, small garden so no large volumes used there, past 7 pm if its yellow, let it mellow toilet flush rule.. (More to do with not waking DS up!)

After I've spoken to my lovely neighbours tomorrow, I shall be looking into a meter quick sharp!

45 a month here on a meter 2 of us in a 4 bed - I can't understand why ours is so high.

HelenaGWells · 02/03/2017 17:27

We are a family of 5. We don't skimp and run at least 3 showers a day, washer every day, dishwasher every day. Ours went up recently but is still well under £60

irregularegular · 02/03/2017 17:32

That seems quite high. Ours is also unmetered and only a bit less than that. But we have a large house (second to top council tax band). It did seem high this year.

Cantgetmyoldnameback · 02/03/2017 18:55

There are 2 of us in a small 2 bed flat, and our water bill is just under £40 a month. But we only pay 9 months of the year (or possibly 8, can't remember) so it works out closer to £30 a month for the full year. Unfortunately we can't have a water meter fitted or I'd definitely get one.
