To ask you what you would class as a lovely thank you present?

We've been staying at a friend's house rent-free (while they are on holiday - lucky things!) for the last 2 weeks while building work is completed on our own house. I would really like to get them something special to say thanks but my brain is totally blank. DH suggested some flowers but I'd like to try and get something less "off the shelf" iykwim. I thought to maybe restock their fridge and freezer with M&S or Cook meals but is that a bit bland?

Extra context: we are 4 (DH, me and 2xDC); they are 3 (him, her and 1x DC). We've known them about 4 years. Eldest DC's are in same nursery room.

A thankyou present or a nice card with a hand written message - it really doesn't matter what it is, it's that someone has done it that makes a difference to me.

That doesn't really help you though, so I would say leave a tidy house (strip the beds too, wash bedding if you have time) and some basics like milk/bread/fruit/eggs something that will make a quick and easy lunch and tea, some breakfast items and some coffee/tea/juice. Maybe get some flowers to brighten the place up

Oh! How about a voucher for a photobook from somewhere like photobox, so they can get their holiday photos printed in a book. Something different and something I would think was cool, original, thoughtful and useful

Without knowing them I'd say a lovely thank you card with flowers, wine and chocolates; and putting some essentials in the fridge (like milk and bread) so they haven't got to drag to the shops as soon as they get back.

Are they garden lovers? A David Austin Rose would be a beautiful (and affordable) reminder of your appreciation.

Now is the perfect time of year because you can order bare root plants up til May. You can choose roses as climbers, bushes, standards etc.

Our friends house sat for us. Saved us £200 in cattery fees so that would have been enough for us. But they left the place spotless, milk and bread in fridge and then sent us Amazon vouchers! Enough for a Fitbit for dh and me!!!!! When we have stayed with people have sent them restaurant vouchers. I think anything really (depends on budget) just to show them you appreciate it.
