To think Argos could do more (faulty item)?

I bought a cross trainer 3 weeks ago.

Had to put it together myself and don't have box now. It's a very heavy item and now assembled won't fit in my car.

It's grinding in the box bit that was put together when it came.

AIBU to think the solution of taking it apart, putting it in bags and driving to store , exchanging and then rebuilding myself for 29p per mile petrol (store is only 2.7 miles away!) is pretty crap?

I get they can't help it's broken but my argument is it's not fit for purpose and they should be delivering me a new one and collecting the faulty one as compensation for the time it'll take me to rebuild it!

Have you spoken to them about it? I'm surprised they haven't offered you a voucher or something though.

Argos are pretty shit re home delivery, they once delivered a sofa to my home and then refused to carry it upstairs to my flat. Because it was so heavy apparently.

I dont think yabu but im not sure where you stand legally. Worth complaining.

Thank you. Customer service offered me the 29p per mile to return it to store.

I said no thanks - item isn't for for purpose, bought in good faith etc. Asked for email.

Then decid d I would ask for collection of faulty item and delivery of replacement. I get that they can't help it's broken but to be fair they decided to sell the item so they must have responsibility for it lasting more than 3 weeks?

Argos are crap. They once delivered a new fridge freezer and managed to smash my glass dining table to smithereens. They promptly left ( I was at work, elderly MAIL in charge). The table was left with huge jagged pieces sticking out. I had two young kids. They also damaged the fridge freezer. I'll not even tell you how hard it was to get it sorted.
Useless.
Sorry and good luck!

Customer Service have offered to pay you mileage to return it to them? They're going over and above their statutory duty. Sorry, that's probably as good as it's going to get. (Although if the store does same day local deliveries it might just be worth trying for a delivery/recovery).

downwardfacingdog · 01/03/2017 18:19

I think it's a reasonable request for them to deliver and collect the old one. Definitely worth a try.

youarenotkiddingme · 01/03/2017 20:26

What is the statutory duty?

I know I have not fit for purpose on my side.
