Was so excited when shiny new Zanussi oven arrived yesterday.

Doesn't work.

Electrician says appliance is faulty. So called John Lewis and explained. They said could replace it in 10 working days!!

I understand it can't be same day/next day, but 2 weeks!

Also. I said what would happen about installation, given it's a faulty product? They said they might be able to do it cheaper. AIBU to want free installation after already paying for the installation and the oven is faulty?

Was on the phone for nearly an hour trying to sort it out.

Also did a big shop for food/dinners involving our new oven.

DH would put our old one back. But they took it away to dispose of it Sad

Can sympathise! Our oven died recently, followed by the washing machine.

Bought new oven (thought we'd invest - ha ha - in a decent one). Bought new washing machine.

New oven doesn't work,. Have already had repair man out to fix it, but still not working properly, manufacturer making us wait 10 days for each call out. Have had it nearly a month and it's still not working!

Meanwhile, just before the new washing machine was delivered we discovered the old one was working after all. Argh.

gluteustothemaximus · 28/02/2017 18:14

Oh no gastro, a whole month! That's crazy.

Bizarrely I started a thread on oldest items that still work, and lots of posters had large appliances for years and years. Seems they don't make things like they used to!

Broken washing machine - chuck all dirty clothes in bath with DC and tell them to jump! Used to do this on holidays when we rented apartments and there was no washing machine. Kids loved it! Very energy efficient and they sleep really well after bath time!

Yea I've had quite a few things from ao over the years. Depending on when I've ordered next day. Think you've missed the cut off for tomorrow. None of this wait in all day rubbish.
If the oven is cheaper at JL they will also price match. Although they have a few zanuzzi's on sale at the moment

gluteustothemaximus · 28/02/2017 18:25

Ooo, didn't know AO price match.

Next day delivery too. Off to look at AO...

JL gone very downhill. Took 6 months to get compensation after their delivery truck drove over our lawn. Got the whole thing on video. They then wanted us to deal direct with the logistics company. Took to Facebook, posted the video and they took the problem back in house within the hour - but still got 6 months to get a payout!

I'm thinking similarly with John Lewis. Phone broke after a short while (not my fault). 2 year guarantee. I spoke to them on the phone and have got a strong feeling they're gonna give me grief about it. They sent me an email with some codswallop about costing me £20 - £30 to return it (to put me off - it cost me £4.50*). But I think if you are prepared to "go there" with them, they do deal with it. Lets see ....

*Actually, why am I paying! Ah, I get it, they're getting ready to charge me for fixing it!

Anotherminime · 28/02/2017 18:49

I was also going to suggest lookin at AO, we've used them for loads of appliances and they have been excellent! Maybe try and get compensation from JL to cover additional installation costs.

"Zanussi is wank anyway."

I'm sorry the OP has had trouble, but I love my Zanussi double oven. I've had it for years, just needing to replace the element once or twice. Easy to clean, and still going strong.

I hope you get the problem sorted ASAP, OP.

gluteustothemaximus · 28/02/2017 19:03

Thanks for the good AO news. It does seem odd that they can deliver next day, but JL can't.

Reason why we avoid currys and similar stores is because their service is so bad and returns/problems are only resolved with a huge fight. Never expected this from JL at all. Also liked the 2 year guarantee.

I did phone again! I now have a Zanussi engineer coming out to 'check' it's faulty. Not really sure what this has achieved actually, other than delaying things. If it is faulty and they try and fix it, I don't want it. Surely when you buy a new item, it shouldn't need to be fixed straight away?!

Anyways. We will see what happens tomorrow, and will no doubt get them to pick it up and try through AO instead. Although price has gone up now (only by £30, but still...)

I actually miss my old oven Sad

Am sending out the hunter gatherer for fish and chips Grin

Bloody cheek of them suggesting they discount the next lot of installation !! Great customer service eh!!

This might be when you find out who your best friends are
bitter - 6 months without a kitchen or friends it would seem

MortonHarketsCheekBones · 28/02/2017 20:43

I've had a TV, a fridge freezer and a washing machine from AO in the last year. They are fantastic and I don't impress easily.

MortonHarketsCheekBones · 28/02/2017 20:44

And don't accept a repair. Your contract is with the seller.

MortonHarketsCheekBones · 28/02/2017 20:47

From BBC News.....

A. The simple answer to this is that you can return faulty goods to either the retailer or the manufacturer. The retailer can be responsible because your contract under Sale of Goods legislation is with them and the manufacturer because for the first 12 months or so after purchase you are likely to be covered by a manufacturer's warranty.
In most cases it makes sense to take faulty goods back to the retailer and you shouldn't be fobbed off if you are told that it is nothing to do with them.
As another option, under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act you may have a claim against the credit card company if you paid for your faulty goods using a credit card, and the goods cost more than £100 but less than £30,000.

gluteustothemaximus · 28/02/2017 22:30

Thanks Morton. Will see what happens tomorrow.

Yes, I thought it was a cheek too saying they'd discount 2nd install.

Good to hear positive AO purchases!
