To wonder if the date of conception determines sex of baby?

In my limited experience it does but interested in others' experiences.

My understanding is that girl sperm live longer (7 days) and boy sperm swim faster, but die quicker (24 hours). So knowing that with both my kids I conceived on day 11 of my cycle, and didn't ovulate until day 14, they could only be girls (and they did turn out to be girls).

If you know for definite when you conceived/ovulated, does your experience back this theory up, or did you have an exception?

If this was the case, all babies conceived through IUI or IVF would be the same gender. Obviously, they're not.

My cycle is very easy to predict, we dtd on day of ovulation and just before- had a dd.
I also know someone who tried to manipulate this theory to have a dd but had two boys..

Why would they be the same gender twin? Male and female sperm swim happily whether the woman is ovulating or not. When I had my IUI early due to a pre-booked flight home etc., the clinic said 'if you become pregnant, it will be a girl'. If I remember rightly, more than 80% of their pre-ovulation treatments that result in pregnancy result in girls.

For dd, I know exactly when I ovulated thanks to Clomid and blood tests. Date of conception (ie estimate of sperm meeting egg) was about a week later from scans than calculated. I took great joy in telling MrNC that all was fine after the first scan, "but you know you faff about so much? Turns out your sperm do too...!"

Boy/girl twins come from two eggs released nearly the same time, but could well be one was fertilised a day or two before the other.

Ovulation day, and we have a boy.

Also on ovulation, both times and 2 boys...

Theory worked for me - I wanted a girl first so dtd before ovulation. I had a daughter April 2014. Wanted a boy next so dtd while I was ovulating (I have an ovulation monitor) and gave birth to a boy Sept 2016. Smile I would like to say theory worked but who knows Grin. Maybe it did or maybe just luck Wink

Actually there is scientific theory around it. I can't remember which way (sex) but it's along the lines of male swimmers whip in and bag the egg so more likely to be male at ovulation, but female swimmers hang around a bit longer so are more likely outside the actual ovulation. Don't quote me on accuracy but something like that!
