... to not eat re-frozen chicken

Who is right ?
DP bought a tray of raw chicken thighs and declined to portion them up before freezing because he was going to 'cut them with a hot knife' ! when he wanted to take some out for cooking.
Well unsurprisingly he cannot 'cut them with a hot knife' so has taken them out to thaw , batch cook curries, then put back portions in the freezer.
Tell me - is this safe ?
I say no !

JacquelineChan it's the opposite in my house.

My husband is convinced you cannot re-freeze previously frozen meat even if cooked. I keep reassuring him that my parents, sisters and myself are all living examples that it's fine (to date not one of us has ever had food poisoning...yep appreciate I may now be cursing myself!).

He does it grudgingly but I suppose you can't just break the habit of a lifetime just because someone says so Smile

I'm really paranoid about chicken but if it's defrosted and then cooked it's fine to be frozen again.

I'm a chef and can confirm that it is absolutely safe to freeze raw chicken, defrost and cook, then freeze the cooked product.

but it would have been ! that was my suggestion lol

i think i am paranoid because i had a bout of food poisoning about 10 years ago at xmas and i have never forgotten it. I have never been so ill since , I am always cautious.
But I am really glad I found out that it is ok to re freeze cooked meat , it will save me a lot of angst

But he should have portioned it up in freezer bags !

Oblom - i really don't know why I thought that or where I got the idea. It's a rule I have always adhered to - and I had no need !

Ah I understand where you're coming from. I go by the rule a pp said, freeze once in each state.

good job as well, I'm a sucker for meat deals when they're on.
