To think this amounts to a monumental reception place fuck up?

Parent only wants DC to go to the nearest outstanding school. School is a religious school, prioritiss kids of same denomination and is in an area with a place shortage. It is oversubscribed by kids who meet the religious criteria every year. In area as a whole there have been cases the last few years of kids getting no place at all. Lots go private. Family is not religious at all, let alone this denomination. Parent therefore puts down this school in every option box on application form, adds in additional comments box that they work full time and can't home educate because DC would be at home alone all day. Needs this school because is most convenient for drop offs and child is exceptionally bright. Parent isn't worried about allocation day, thinks they have it sorted. Aibu to think no council is that stupid? Hmm

BalloonSlayer and meditrina and others who explain the church school situation - exactly. I wish people would understand that.

When I was five the church school wasn't quite built. I went to the local church and we raised and raised money for the school. Jumble sales and fetes and donations. It was built on church land - in the grounds of the church in fact - and the teachers were paid for by the church. The parents raised money for most of the facilities - this year a climbing frame, next year a piano type of thing.

It was a brilliant school. The government contribute to the education but the land, the buildings, the facilities, the groundwork was all done by the parents and the church.

Has she heard yet? Has she? Has she?

Primary school allocations aren't until 18th April... but will be interesting to see!

Butterymuffin · 06/03/2017 21:58

Place marking for the update Smile

Trb17 · 12/04/2017 10:07

Not long to go now... wonder what will happen?

paddypants13 · 16/04/2017 09:42

Some people have found out already but no news here. I wonder if op's friend has found out.

Finola1step · 16/04/2017 09:48

Blatant place marking.

scoobydoo83 · 16/04/2017 09:52

Parent has been REALLY daft (sorry if it's you op!) you cannot bulldoze councils into giving you a place by only putting one option. People try it every year, our council tells parents repeatedly that it won't work. Pp are right, they'll get offered a place in a random school miles away..... Sigh!!

Raggydolly3 · 16/04/2017 09:57

Lancashire schools found out today

Trb17 · 20/04/2017 22:05

@DelphineCormier did you ever find out what happened?

stella23 · 20/04/2017 22:32

On the issue of it not being fair for faith schools to insist on church attendance, or for people who don't subscribe to a faith having less of a chance of getting a place, the church provide a huge chunk of cash to run the school, and so in return will prioritise families who support the church, via regular attendance.

Faith school should only be able to exclude or prioritise only the amount of spaces that are funded by the church or donations. All others spaces which are equal to the amount funded by the state should be excluded from faith allocation

KrayKray00 · 20/04/2017 23:13

Whoooah how odd. I earlier posted a similar thread about two women debating whose child deserves a place at the local outstanding catholic school. One is non religious but has a sibling the other child is religious but no sibling. Neither got a place.

SillyMoomin · 20/04/2017 23:16

Drum roll...:

ScissorBow · 20/04/2017 23:30

I do love reading about the ignorance of folk trying to play a system they don't understand.

Any update?

Trb17 · 22/04/2017 18:31

Any update? I'm so curious.

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 22/04/2017 20:13

Place marking!! Grin Please come back op!

RandomMess · 22/04/2017 20:22

I too would love to know the outcome!

SexTrainGlue · 22/04/2017 20:38

"Faith school should only be able to exclude or prioritise only the amount of spaces that are funded by the church or donations. All others spaces which are equal to the amount funded by the state should be excluded from faith allocation"

So 100% - as the church owns 100% of the land as buildings.
