Woke up this morning to find my neighbour "pruning"the lovely tree on some shared ground right outside my house. It looks awful and is in full view of our front Windows. What can I do. Apart from cry.

think it looks ok from that photo. Give it a couple of months to fill out with leaves and I think it will look good.

ProfYaffle · 26/02/2017 13:10

Unless it's a plum type tree, this is the ideal time to prune. Damp etc won't do any harm.

Lostpangolin · 26/02/2017 13:46

Looks like a piss poor effort as someone who has been trained in pruning. Was the outfit called bodgit and scarper?

Pop outside and say "Hello, oh, are you pruning the tree?" and see what they say.

Never thought I'd post a neighbour one

The outfit was neighbour and his aged parents. He always seems to put them to work when they come to visit.
When I asked in what I thought was a jokey way "I hope you're not going to chop it down" He replied "Of course not it just needs a haircut ".
The strip of land is on the opposite side of our shares drive, just us and next door. We jointly maintain ie cut grass and get local farmer to cut hedge.
My husband said they proably didn't let us know they were going to do it as they knew I would say no.
I once told him off for getting the farmer round to cut the hedge on the nesting season.
calmed down now. I'm glad other people think it looks shit too. Trees aren't meant to look like lollipops!

It's a bit stumpy but it'll grow quickly enough.

Garnethair · 26/02/2017 16:37

What kind of tree is it?

My husband is inclined to do this to our trees. He gets a bit carried away with giving them haircuts and they end up looking like they've had a sixties bob. They grow back with vigour.

LadyPW · 26/02/2017 20:50

It reminds me of the front of my hair when I've cut it too short and think 'oh , how long will it take to grow back this time?!' Is she going to 'prune' the other trees so at least they all match? Otherwise that poor tree is going to be feeling sad Sad

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/02/2017 06:26

My parents have a willow tree in their garden. Every few years, they get a tree surgeon to come and chop it right back. Looks dreadful at the time. Like an arm sticking up in the air but with no fingers on the hand. But, come spring, looks really lovely and grows back even better.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/02/2017 06:27

And it can't be as bad as when my nan asked me (I was about 8/9) to prune one of her sphere shaped bushes during my very brief

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/02/2017 06:29

Oops. Posted too soon!

...during my very brief time that I liked gardening. I decided a heart would be better. Turns out hearts are quite hard and I proceeded to make a whole in the middle of the top. She was less than impressed. Grin

People cry over pruned trees? shock

Go and glue it all back together

Grin

Lol, I was just thinking how do people get so worked up over trees? I couldn't be arsed. Grin
Plus I'm so unobservant I probably wouldn't even notice the thing had been chopped anyway... Grin
