I've always got on well with previous work colleagues but the job I'm in now is just odd. The staff are so bitchy. My manager emails me to tell me people say I don't stick to my working times. She tells me people say I'm lazy and arrogant. I'm none of these things. There's a lot of whispering in the corners of the office and emails flying round about people. It's cringey. Aibu to just go in do my work and go home? I can't be arsed talking to them

I know exactly how you feel. I just want to do my job without having to deal with the petty politics. YANBU!

Lol I know lady it makes me cringe. They run out of the office like school girls to tittle tattle they're in their 40's and 50's

Nope I feel like my work is full of people fighting against each other to progress not working as a team at all. The politics is horrific.

Work is work. Home is home. I always have an excuse for work related social events. I used to go to them but it annoyed me that someone was nice as pie when drinking cocktails but a bitch face on Monday morning.

I'd rather have a few good friends than loads of untrue friends...so I keep work at work now

For clarity, do you have any problems or issues about my working times, how much work I complete in the time or my attitude? Would you like to schedule a date to discuss these issues or anything else? Is there anything you would hope to say to me? Are you happy with the work I do?"

If manager comes back to say everything you're doing is great, then ask manager what they are doing to combat the comments.

If manger comes back to say 'yes, you ARE lazy and DO have an arrogant attitude' then however hurtful, try to take it on board and ask for actual examples and evidence so you can improve (there won't be any!)

No yanbu, feeling the same at my workplace, i cant stand the falseness and bitchiness, nice to each others faces then bitching behind their back as soon as theyve left office, i dont bother with engaging with them on social level, only talk to them when have to for work, bit shit but cant be arsed with the falseness!

Not NHS is it? I understand that there are many who enjoy their jobs there but it seems to be the case with corporate staff.
My current job is unbearable, I work in an office full of staff who have been there 10+ years each. I have worked there 2 years. I get ignored, the person senior to me won't say my name if she needs anything she will stand behind me until I notice her there They use their phones all the time and charge them at their desks, I have been told I'm not allowed my phone in work. They take personal calls all the time. They have work nights out and don't even invite me or the other one member of staff who started at the same time as me. They have a list of all staff birthdays in the office and have emailed it around so we don't forget anyone's, I've put in the collection for all of them including collections for those going on mat leave or leaving the Trust etc and I've had 2 birthdays whilst working there and had nothing not even a verbal happy birthday from anyone. The thing that made me feel shit about that was the fact that one of them has a birthday 3 days before so a reminder email went out for her collection and I got to watch her open all her gifts on my birthday as she was on leave for hers. Gutted.
The only thing that gets me through each day is the fact that I'm actively looking for another job (I think I've given it a fair go) and the bitching they do about each other when they're such good (fake fake fake) friends is so much fun. I go into work, get on with my work and go home and leave them to it. I also only talk when it's work related.

It is NHS. They're a very sad bunch of people really I pity them and don't give 2 shites what they think

Because they're all drama queens trifle who tell everyone everything. I just calmly get on with my work.

I get that but those are quite specific criticisms: why do they say you don't work your hours and you are arrogant? What basis do they have for those accusations? I'd be furious!

I'm sure if it was true that you weren't doing your contracted hours your boss would have said it directly to you as they'd be able to back it up. I wouldn't worry about that comment one bit.
It's a shame people have the need to be like that at work as potentially it could be a great career but some people make it difficult to want to carry on working there hence why I'm looking elsewhere
