Political parties do not win elections.

The other party looses them....

Didn't we hear something similar last year?

Does Theresa not understand?
RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/02/2017 09:30

I agree with you rorty

I think she should be pleased ...but its a bit like a football team winning the cup when in the last game the other team dont turn up Grin

Its still a win...

Rugbyplayersarehot · 25/02/2017 09:35

I think though whether you are a Tory or not it's good to have a strong opposition to hold the government to account.

Currently we have s weak pigheaded and useless Corbyn who has no possible chance of winning an election and to have such weak opposition is dangerous.

Remember a weak Labour Party allowed Thatcher to run amok.

It's not a good thing for a democracy.

The sooner Corbyn goes the better for everyone.

MrsSparkles · 25/02/2017 09:36

If you look at the swing the win seems to largely result from 1. Labour supporters not turning out (turnout was about 8,000 down) and 2. A swing back to the tories from ukip.

I'd count it as a win!

Rugbyplayersarehot · 25/02/2017 09:40

Yes agree Rorty I was suprised labour held stoke. You think he would be too embaressed to continue wouldn't you.

Ffs piss off corbyn.

Sunnie1984 · 25/02/2017 09:47

Why would the current prime minister publically acknowledge that the leader of the opposition is so useless he is throwing seats away?

The longer Jeremy Corbin remains leader of the Labour Party the easier it is for her!

Sellafield was a huge deal in Copeland and you can't blame the constituents for not voting for a party when it's leader is so openly opposed to Trident.

Copeland also voted for Brexit and Theresa May has accepted the result of the referendum whole heartedly and is focussed on implementing it.

Better a win for the conservatives rather than UKIP.

TheNaze73 · 25/02/2017 10:40

Less than 1 in 4 people would intend to vote Labour at the next general election, this is not a blip. Corbyn celebrating holding on to
Stoke would be a bit like Chelsea having an open top bus parade for beating the mighty Leyton Orient. Labour, in its present guise, a bit like the Conservatives when under Hague, are royally fucked. Copeland was an astounding win

Rugbyplayersarehot · 25/02/2017 10:52

Agree if tories could choose a leader they would choose Corbyn he's the gift that keeps on giving and he's destroying the Labour Party.

Maybe that's his intention.

PlayOnWurtz · 25/02/2017 15:11

Tbh a lot of us tory voters wanted Corbyn in for this exact reason but also want a strong opposition and you won't get that from him

Rugbyplayersarehot · 25/02/2017 15:14

play indeed that was my point a democracy benefits from a strong opposition whoever is in government.

This is so unhealthy and dangerous at the moment.

CosyNook · 25/02/2017 16:05

Make a comment about labour losing and all of a sudden you are a disgruntled labour supporter

Mumsnet is is dominated by the left-wingers. Make any comment that you are a Tory and the insults start. They just shout everyone else down. The Tories give up and take their opinions to the ballot box and the Left are then stunned as to whats happened.

Bejazzled · 25/02/2017 19:38

'Quiet tories' same as happened in the Scottish referendum, 'quiet no voters' I think it was called

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 25/02/2017 19:49

Spot on `CosyNook!

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 25/02/2017 19:59
