I need your help on how to reply to this customer.

I make cakes for living, home based but all on the books. Never had a complaint apart from today....

Quoted a lady for a 21st birthday cake for her daughter. Quite an elaborate design but she was very vague in what she wanted - I.e didn't specify colour etc just sort of said what she wanted and said "make it look pretty"

Her daughter's party is tomorrow, the cake is finished and she asked me to send a picture. I did and she was horrified - said it's not what she wanted, I was going to ruin her daughters birthday, the colour was wrong (even though she hadn't specified a colour. I offered to change details on it, obviously couldn't change the colour. She wanted extras adding to it which would have taken 6 hours atleast to make - that would have meant I made zero profit.

I made some changes to the cake which took me 3 hours and I sent her a pic and she was grateful saying it was much better and Thankyou.

I then get a message saying she wants it delivered now as I caused her so much stress and upset. The venue is an hours drive from my house. The original agreement was she was to pick up the cake. I explained this wasn't possible for me to deliver and she said that she has no free time tomorrow and can't collect it.

How do I respond to this? She's the type that will leave a bad review everywhere and anywhere so I have to tread carefully! Help!!!

Tell us your page so we can leave you amazing reviews!!!! She cannot get away with this!

RandomMess · 25/02/2017 12:28

Have you put up the photo of her cake on your FB page?

You can also respond to her comment that you offered for her to not take the cake and you would donate it to charity instead but perhaps maintaining a dignified silence would be the better option?

She would have left that scathing review anyway, regardless SadAngry

redexpat · 25/02/2017 12:29

Well done for standing firm OP. I'm sure if you linked to your FB page you'd get some business from other MNers...

fatmummy87 · 25/02/2017 12:29

Op that's awful! Reply to the review straight away with your side of the story. Try to remain calm and professional. If it helps, type it here first x

Schwifty · 25/02/2017 12:29

OP what happened? I'm refreshing furiously... 🎂

aintnobodygottimefodat · 25/02/2017 12:30

Angry what an absolute bunch of morons.

Well done for standing your ground OP Star

Please don't let an idiot like her put you off doing something you clearly love. Shake it off and continue your good work.

Could you write a response to her review? And as for her family members, they're not customers so respond to their reviews to let everyone know they haven't ordered or paid for anything.

RuggerHug · 25/02/2017 12:30

What Random Mess said! Sad

DontTouchTheMoustache · 25/02/2017 12:32

Well done op you did the right thing, you would have got the bad review either way. Please upload pictures and a copy of her specification so people can see how unfair she has been.

DevelopingDetritus · 25/02/2017 12:33

Well done OP. I bet they do this sort of thing all the time, then send in the heavy mob. Some people!

moreslackthanslick · 25/02/2017 12:36

Post us (or pm) the link to your FB page

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 25/02/2017 12:38

PM link to your Facebook page - happy to review how reasonable you and your delicious cakes are!

AQuietMind · 25/02/2017 12:38

Any chance we can see the cake and maybe we could 'review' it on your Facebook? I can't stand people like that who want nice things but don't want to pay for them!

SemiNormal · 25/02/2017 12:39

Another here that would like a link to FB page if possible.

niknok69 · 25/02/2017 12:39

Whats you're facebook page so we can all give you support!

PUGaLUGS · 25/02/2017 12:39

Well done OP for not letting her get away with it Flowers

AQuietMind · 25/02/2017 12:39

She will be furious and extremely confused if her bad reviews get completely lost by a hundred excellent reviews Wink

PUGaLUGS · 25/02/2017 12:40

I would happily leave feedback too if you want to pm your page.

ZippyNeedsFeeding · 25/02/2017 12:40

How you deal with a negative review/pain in the backside customer will say more than her ranting to anyone who reads it. A calm, factual reply (preferably with a photo) will make it clear what really happened.

LucklessMonster · 25/02/2017 12:41

You did the right thing.

Don't worry about a bad review, or even a couple. Your reply to them is an opportunity to show how great your customer service is, and plenty of us (including me) don't trust anywhere that only has glowing reviews. No business ever gets 100% happy customers!

WaegukSaram · 25/02/2017 12:42

Another one happy to review your page if you want to pm me.

Ricekrispiesquare · 25/02/2017 12:43

Op I too will leave a review and order future cakes if you're local enough xxx

Grilledaubergines · 25/02/2017 12:44

So sorry to hear this OP. It's not much consolation that you guessed this would be her stance.

You do need to respond asap to it though. Or even just write a post unconnected to her review, to counterbalance her predicted nastiness. Including the intent to intimidate.

And yes please post your link. You've been treated so badly. Flowers

Grilledaubergines · 25/02/2017 12:45

Or pm the page. Only too happy to review

user1473069303 · 25/02/2017 12:46

What a bitch. I bet she's the first to moan that there aren't many jobs around all the while doing her best to undermine local enterprise. Parasite!
