To be unhappy with hairdresser

I've been going to the same hairdresser for just over a year, every 6 weeks or so for a trim and colour. She used to be absolutely fantastic and managed to get the cut, colour and style spot on, yet wasn't outrageously expensive and was very friendly too (but not annoyingly so!).

Yet, the past couple of times, it's as though she's lost interest and both the colour and cut haven't been great (slightly uneven trim at the back and patchy colour which others have noticed).

I was due to go back for a root touch-up yesterday but when I went to the salon, she wasn't there. Her colleagues thought that she had left for the day, despite the fact that we had re-confirmed the appointment the day before. When contacted by the salon, she said that she had forgotten and was sorry but she could see me next week.

I appreciate that this is a bit 'first world problems' but am I being unreasonable to be rather miffed with her and consider going to another salon altogether? I had a similar experience a few years ago, where I used to live of, a previously excellent hairdresser seemingly losing interest after a few appointments.

Do people think that some hairdressers just get complacent? I am a good tipper too!

Hairdresser here. The missed appointment thing I wouldn't take too heart, for all you know she left the salon because something important came up. For e.g. Child wise, family member , something at her house. It does happen! If it was a once off I wouldn't get too worked up it happens.
( I actually had a client of 3+ years have a hissy in my salon because i was at the hospital in labour and couldn't do her hair, everybody else who the salon couldn't contact and they came in for their appointment understood and sent their well wishes)
But with the cut and colour have you told her you haven't been impressed? I would be mortified thinking my client loved it only for them too leave not impressed.
Maybe she's just got "cocky" thinking she knows exactly how you like it and that's why it is coming across as her being uninterested.

She said she "forgot" KungFuPandaWorksOut16 If something genuine had come up, she could/should have let her colleagues so they could tell OP, preferably in advance so that OP didn't waste her time. Regardless of the reason, her actions were very unprofessional.

let told

Thanks for everyone's comments. She's texted me to apologise about the forgotten appointment (she rents a chair in a small salon, rather than being 'employed' so doesn't use a salon's computer or diary).

I am going back but if I'm still not happy then I will definitely go elsewhere. The cut and style was good but the colour is very patchy which is hopefully going to be fixed this week. My friends agree that the roots are a good few shades lighter than the rest of it which isn't great!

Wouldn't she have her own diary though? Seems very weird to attempt to just commit appointments to memory rather than writing it down.

Unless it was an admin error and she forgot to write it down?

It's up to you could give her one last chance but I don't have to mention about the finish not being as good last time. Ask about different products or say are you using someThing else as I noticed it was a bit patchy?

X

Okay.. so I am a hairdresser and she has been totally un professional, I've worked in salons and have seen this happen alot . I always ask my clients if they were happy with their hair the last time or if there's anything they'd like to change. I personally would prefer someone to tell me they didn't like it last time or I left one side longer than the other! 😂 It happens!

I've had this with a hairdresser. My colour was a mess when I got the courage up to "dump" her. She had some personal problems, but at the end of the day, her job was to make my hair look good and she was failing.

Well if she rents the chair, its down to her to know when the appointments are,not the salon. Its like she has realised but is trying to blame the salon rather than herself.
