Parking with a twist

themueslicamel · 24/02/2017 08:26

Came home yesterday from work by train and noticed that there wasn't a massive white van parked over my dropped kerb, and in fact I wasn't blocked in at all.

My ancient car I used to have use for work before I went back to using the train was parked neatly next to the family car, and I had easy access to using each without moving the other.

When I looked at the windscreens no one had left a sarky note, and at this point my neighbour came out and didn't rant about my parking at all, in fact he didn't even mention it, we just exchanged the normal humorous pleasantries.

I am happy to draw a diagram if required, but AIBU for not having anything interesting to add to a parking thread?

I feel so left outWinkWinkWinkWink

But did he use your toilet, ShowMe?

AgathaMystery · 24/02/2017 10:10

Our neighbour has taken down his garden fence and started parking in his front garden. Although his lawn now looks like the Somme there is one less car on our busy road.

Obvs we are all up in arms as there is very little hope of a good parking fight going forward.

TempusEedjit · 24/02/2017 10:11

This reasonableness is all so far fetched I'm calling troll thread... Wink

DontTouchTheMoustache · 24/02/2017 10:12

My biggest regret is having a parking dispute before I joined mumsnet. If only I had known.

ALemonyPea · 24/02/2017 10:16

My car has been parked outside my house for a week now as I'm unable to drive. Nobody has knocked and asked me to move it, I'm most upset.

Astro55 · 24/02/2017 10:18

I loved 5 doors away from school - one mum parked a foot over my drive - I nipped out and explained it was fine as I was also doing the school run and didn't need to get the car out till later - she was very happy!

WeedlesHatOfDisappointment · 24/02/2017 10:21

moustache don't leave it there! Get your diagram ready, then post the saga!!

themueslicamel · 24/02/2017 10:22

I should confess I have previous.
My neighbours had a doctors appointment and a flat battery as they had left their lights on, so I lent them my car and the bought us flowers to say thanks.

We all get in so well that we often close the road and have huge street parties where all have a great time.

I'm ashamed, I might get up in the night and slash my own tyres

I live in an old house with several flats, limited parking, and one family has two cars and a big van. It's utterly appalling because they are all lovely, when my family helped me move in they allowed room for the moving van, and they are all happy to move to let each other out if anyone is ever blocked in (which happens a lot because 4 of the spaces are in a line). Best of it all, when one parked insanely close to my private entrance (I have the ground floor) and I couldn't get the pram out with 6 week old dd, I mentioned it and he was insanely apologetic, moved, and bought me a box of chocolates round as an apology! Ridiculous!!!! WTH? Should they not let me have some drama? Wink

I looked out of my window and saw a car blocking my front drive. So many emotions began welling inside as I pictured the lengthy thread I could begin on MN. Imagine my disappointment when I realized it was no longer there. In fact, it hadn't parked at all, was in fact just driving along the road.

PovertyPain · 24/02/2017 10:30

The house directly opposite mine is having major renovations done. They've had builders, plumbers, tarmac, etc. The closest I had to being blocked in, was when one of their trailers, on the back of a large van, was parked in front of my house. They had a small digger on the trailer and it was overhanging my drive, ever so slightly.

Now, I can easily get out of my drive, but was a bit worried about trying to watch the digger and the busy road, in both directions. I asked if it could be pulled up slightly, explained that I was a bit worried about the fact that some drivers speed on my road, and one of the very polite workmen offered to watch me out. I thanked him very much, told them the old house was starring to look amazing and complemented the new owners on their dedication. He thanked me, watched me out and I waved as I drove away.

SERIOUSLY! All those fecking work van, lorrys, cars, etc, and that's the nearest I get to a rant. How dare they be so considerate! Bastards! 😡

Not one of the dirty, filthy, workmen asked to use my toilet, even though I have a downstairs toilet! I nursed for over 20yrs, so a bit of stuck on poo wouldn't have bothered me. But do they ask? Do they come over and leave skid marks on the toilet? NO! Seriously, what's the world coming to when you can't find something to moan about?

considers telling all about my rotten creepy neighbours who used to make my life a misery 🤔

Bitofacow · 24/02/2017 10:31

I'm gutted. I thought van = parking dispute no questions asked.
Now you tell me van drivers can be reasonable.
My felt tips are lying in the draw unusedSad

In fact, it hadn't parked at all, was in fact just driving along the road.

Did you not consider throwing yourself in front of it, to force it to stop outside your drive? Really, Molly, you've let all of Mumsnet down! 😡

😄

ShowMePotatoSalad · 24/02/2017 10:36

Sparkly if he did, he was very discreet. No, erm, evidence was left.

0hT00dles · 24/02/2017 10:45

We do have people randomly park outside our driveway (dropped kerb) all the time. It's never long enough to start a thread (damn it) but it drives me nuts. They can see a car in the driveway and just plop their cars outside our driveway instead of who they're visiting. How do people think it's okay?

All our driveways are big enough to facilitate 2 cars each yet most people on our road close their gates and park on the road.

Olympiathequeen · 24/02/2017 10:47

Since our nightmare neighbour moved we can park outside his old house and our new nice neighbour doesn't bat an eyelid. Boring isn't it? loved seeing him burst a blood vessel when we did

AlmaMartyr · 24/02/2017 10:49

We have two parking spaces that belong to us,which is great for our two cars. Occasionally someone parks in one of the spaces while DH is at work. It doesn't bother me. I stare at it, trying to get worked up, but I just can't. They move before he comes home. A van parks on the pavement next to the spaces but selfishly never blocks us in. Arse.

Oogachaka · 24/02/2017 10:52

Our driveway is designed for one car, but we squeeze both on it so we don't have to use the space that's always free right outside our house. To achieve this, we sometimes have to tread on our neighbours perfectly kept lawn to enter / exit one car.
They have never complained. Even in wet weather when footprints are left, clearly visible in the grass.
To add insult to injury, they move our emptied bin down to the side of our house while we're at work so we can both drive in without having to move it ourselves.
Yesterday they went one step further and replaced it in its designated spot in our back garden to prevent Doris having her wicked way with it.
We are sorely tempted to move.

Deathraystare · 24/02/2017 10:57

Last week we had some work vans on our drive so I parked on the road. My neighbour knocked on the door and told asked me to park on her drive. I don't know what the world is coming to

It can only get better :(

Can you not reason with them? Tell them mumsnetters feel they should not be reasonable. They are letting the side down!

CocoaColoa · 24/02/2017 11:00

If it helps I can tell you about how last week I parked in a loading zone outside a furniture shop (zone specifically designated for that shop) in order to load a chest of drawers and got beeped at by a taxi who wanted to park there?

The whole exercise was relatively sedate.... I had almost finished loading and my expletives were unheard by the taxi driver.

[I may have driven around the block a few times afterwards to see if the taxi driver had moved his arse out of the loading zone though. He hadn't]

CaroleService · 24/02/2017 11:12
