Children's first plane ride

My dad is taking my eldest on holiday to Portugal in July. Her first trip abroad will be to Disneyland which we are doing before that, but we are going by Eurostar. I feel like I would be missing a major thing in her life if I am not the one to be with her on her first plane journey. So wibu to book a holiday abroad with her, cheap and cheerful, just so that I can be on her first plane journey? I can't decide! We could just afford the other holiday but it wouldn't be ideal because of Disneyland if that makes sense. It wouldn't mean we couldn't eat but also wouldn't be ideal! Thanks

To be honest my kids got more excited going on a train rather than a plane.

I admit they'd been flying since they were very small, but it's not really that big a deal - the destination is more important than the journey.

Let's face it, once you are in the air there is bugger all to see and unless your flying business it's just a squashed, cramped space with shit food.

First time I flew was as an unattended minor to the west coast of America - it was brilliant to have no parents! The cabin crew just plied us with peanuts and drinks Grin

I don't think either of mine remembered their first flight.

And 5yo just told me she wanted to go to the Isle of Wight for a holiday because we can go there on a ferry!

This is from a child who has to Australia. In their mind oz is no better than the Isle of Wight which we can see from the coast. (We are in Southampton)!

My first plane journey was with school.

I don't think flights are the exciting event they once were anyway. All the things that used to make them special are either being phased out (cute little meals on trays) or have been commonplace (nothing exciting about being to watch a movie in your seat now you can do that with your iPad on a bus!).

Take off and landing are fun, the rest of the flight can be quite dull and the waiting around and queues are likely to try the patience of a young child, even before you factor in the possibility of delays,

I honestly don't think you are missing out!

I'm 35 and have never been on a plane with my parents!! First time on a plane was when I was 18 and I went to Australia by myself!!!

I wouldn't have considered it 'a first'

I don't even remember the first haircut. Didn't realise it was a thing.
