To not take a person seriously if they have a snapchat filter on their profile picture

Snapchat has to be the worst of all social media. But what is with the countless profile pictures with the butterflies around the head? Filtered to within an inch of their lives.

I cannot take someone serious as a sensible adult if they have a pouting snapchat selfie as their picture.

And if they use this monkey emoji 🙈 even less so.

It does annoy me, I'm on a weight loss forum and all the duck faced pouty pics that Get posted for no apparent reason really annoying me. Fuck off back to FB and leave this site for helpful tips etc.

OnHold · 22/02/2017 11:27

Maybe they don't want to be taken seriously. It's only FB.

If unfriend someone as uptight as you though ,op

hippoherostandinghere · 22/02/2017 11:27

Bitter and jealous are not two words I'd use to describe myself, pointless emotions. Why would I be jealous of someone who can use snapchat?

I'm saying it's ok for teens but I don't understand why a grown up needs a butterfly halo or dog ears?

But how would you know I'm so uptight onhold if these thoughts are in my hear?

Snapchat filters I don't care..it's obviously a bit of fun.
Pouting fish face selfies from anyone older than a teen I wedgie myself with my judgy pants. Very self centred and attention seeking.

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 22/02/2017 11:30

Can't bring myself to be bothered by it tbh... just harmless silly fun. I don't have social media though.

I do however love those little monkey emojis. I use them alot.

OnHold · 22/02/2017 11:31

I'd know by your very serious FB.

hippoherostandinghere · 22/02/2017 11:35

Maybe the lack of snapchat/pouting selfies is what makes one a proper grown up.

But why would you want to be a proper grown up?

I don't understand why a grown up needs a butterfly halo or dog ears? Have you never been to a fancy dress party as an adult? Have you never messed around and had a laugh about something silly? Never pulled a funny face in the mirror or at your partner? Tried on a funny hat in a shop? Posed for a silly photo on holiday or a night out? Done a mad dance in the kitchen? If so, then you should be able to understand why people enjoy these silly filters. If not, it sounds like you take life too seriously!

Yes this. I was only introduced to it recently, had such a silly funny time with it at Christmas with my teenage nieces. Personally I prefer the ones that make me look like some kind of demon, or face swapping with DP or the dog or whatever to the butterflies and flowers thing. Though sometimes it's nice to put the pretty filter on and see what I'd look like if I could do make up! I don't post them to face book, I might send them to my friend or my niece to make them laugh as they do to me.

I don't have an issue with selfies either really - I don't think women and girls thinking they look pretty is a crime. Again, I'm not one for pasting them all over social media but I can't find it in me to be bothered if someone else wants to.

NinaMarieP · 22/02/2017 11:57

My FB profile pic is a Snapchat one - when New Look had their sponsored demons vs angels filter on I took one of me with a halo and used it. I hate taking pictures of myself, I hate how I look in pictures so it was nice to see a photo where I thought I looked nice enough to have it shared publicly.

I don't have a problem with people putting up snapchat photos I think they are great fun and even my Mum and Dad get involved which is hilarious as Dad has neither Facebook, Snapchat or any other social media and only appears on other people's chats or pages.

It gets a bit annoying when the same person posts daily filtered photos until you just about forget what they look like but everyone is free to use Facebook how they want to.

LaurieMarlow · 22/02/2017 12:25

a proper grown up

What does that even mean, who gets to define it, who says it's a desirable state of being?

You seem to think people share your assumptions on this. They don't.

Play, frivolity, escapism, fun are all wonderful things if used in the right context.

All I see in your posts is someone sneering at something they don't understand.

livefornaps · 22/02/2017 16:16

The monkey you refer to is part of the see no evil/speak no evil/hear no evil series.

I know that because I am a proper grown up, obvs.

karmacoma1 · 22/02/2017 16:31

I don't have strong feelings either way, but I wouldn't use one myself.

My husband however does, and coined the phrase 'flutter-cunt' for someone who uses that filter Blush

The filter does make people look better though doesn't it? If they could have that without the butterfly's and shite I would use it in a heartbeat- I'll take any help I can get, being this unphotogenic. Grin

pinboard · 22/02/2017 18:30

I've never even SEEN one of these

does anyone have an example pls?

moonchild77 · 22/02/2017 18:35

God life is too short to be so boring. Have a bit fun. It's not causing you any harm. Miserable bastard! 🙊🙊

Fauchelevent · 22/02/2017 18:36

I do love when people say "i can't take people seriously who..." as if their express purpose in life was to be taken seriously, if someone had their linkedin picture as a butterfly filter i could understand. It's facebook.

I have snapchat with no friends added for the purpose of having a front camera that doesn't mirror flip the image. It confuses me when my lazy eye is on the other side. But i played around with the filters once and found that distorting one that makes you ugly very fun. Maybe op would take me seriously if my profile pic was that!

If I'm honest I think it's a bit vacuous and silly if you're over the age of say 22, but I can't say I give enough of a shit to give it a second thought. Why does it bug you so much you can't take someone serious and are driven to start a thread on it? That's kind of unusual....

forfucksakenet · 22/02/2017 21:20

Guilty of both 🙈
