To do a medical trial?

Lost my job yesterday.

DP also out of work. We have a toddler, bills to pay etc.

Done some research and apparently you can get up to £3k for two weeks and all you get is 'mild cold' symptoms. The website says it's completely safe (but it would do).

DP says I am crazy to put my health at risk but I think it might be a good option to get a bit of money in.

Has anyone done one? Or know anyone that has? AIBU and irresponsible to do this as an mother?

I considered it as a student but now that I'm older and wiser I'm so glad I didn't do it. I also have a young son now so.absolutely would never do it. I want to be on this earth for as long as I can and be as healthy as I can during that time, a few grand is not worth a serious risk to my health.

I actually considered this a while ago and registered. Unfortunately you need to be in the peak of health - on no medication and that excluded me. It actually sounds a little more complicated and miserable than 'mild flu systems'. Have a look on youtube for video diaries.

It's a really decent amount of money but would you really want to be away from your baby for that long?

Trials are incredibly tightly regulated now, getting consent to run the trial in the first place is exceptionally rigourous.

I appreciate what everone is saying about not partaking, but all of us benefit from these trials. Do you really want a drug released to the general public that has not been through a rigourous testing procedure? No? So how else can you assure people of the safety and efficacy of the drug without putting them through trials?

OP, find out more about it, and if it works for you, then go ahead. And thank you for helping to test a drug that might save my life one day.
