Soft play area

Just wanted to know how everyone felt about adults going in to soft play area with their children?

I do it all the time to keep an eye on my toddler. Its necessary in my opinion until they are old enough to go in by themselves. Why?

FooFighter99 · 21/02/2017 12:46

In what respect?

Sirzy · 21/02/2017 12:46

More context needed but generally not an issue

NoCapes · 21/02/2017 12:48

Doesn't everybody at some point??

Northernlurker · 21/02/2017 12:48

I take a bow and arrow with me to hunt them down as they are clearly creepy perverts.

Was that the answer you were looking for?

In reality my kids are a bit big for soft play now thank the Lord! However when they were smaller I went in with them if they needed it. Playing with ones own kids is generally thought a Good Thing.

2014newme · 21/02/2017 12:53

Sometimes you have to unfortunately.

Anotherminime · 21/02/2017 12:55

I do it all the time, my DD isn't old enough to be left unsupervised. I'm glad I'm around as there are usually a lot of children in there that clearly also aren't old enough to be left without guidance and I have to be there to ensure no one jumps on her head etc.

tumbletastic · 21/02/2017 12:55

When u have a child with several disabilities it's the best way to ensure they are safe, can manage to get around and that others are safe around them. Not sure what the issue is?

Pitchforktotheface · 21/02/2017 12:55

Keeps them and other children safe until the child is of an age where they can understand things such as making sure the bottom of the slide is clear before going down and that you move out the way of the slide once you're at the bottom. I don't see the issue.

downwardfacingdog · 21/02/2017 12:56

Depends on the soft play. Some say no adults on the play frame, some adults welcome. Little ones sometimes get stuck and need rescuing either way.

Bluefrog26 · 21/02/2017 12:56

Maybe I'm just being over protective but it makes me feel uneasy when I know there are adults in there and I can't see what's going on. I'm talking about older kids play areas (4+).

If the child needs that level of supervision, an adult needs to be in there with them. So it is up for individuals to decide.

xStefx · 21/02/2017 12:58

I would rather an adult in there, a few times ive seen kids cornering other kids and hitting them. I also secretly like racing DH from the top to the bottom of the apparatus

stuckinthehouse · 21/02/2017 12:58

Sounds like it might be time for you to get in there too then.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 21/02/2017 12:58

It's better than sending a little one off in there on their own to survive the Lord of the Flies labyrinth.

whensitmyturn · 21/02/2017 12:58

I go in with my 2 year old, during the week when most kids are under 4 I'd say 80% of the parents spend at least some of the time in the equipment with their children usually to help them if they're stuck etc.
Never had an issue with it, though we avoid all soft plays in the school hols as it's always packed!

mrsp0tts · 21/02/2017 12:58

Why what do you think might go on?

scaredofthecity · 21/02/2017 13:00

I really think your over thinking it. I go in with my DS all the time as he's still pretty young, he's on his own and also cos it's fun. It has never even crossed my mind that other parents would be there for any thing other than the same reasons.

Spikeyball · 21/02/2017 13:03

Some older children will still need close supervision.

BarbarianMum · 21/02/2017 13:04

Are you worried about sexual abuse, or that someone might stop your kids terrorising the little ones? Because my overriding memories of soft play is rescuing my weeping 4 year old from being punching/kicked/flattened by bigger kids.

Sirzy · 21/02/2017 13:04

Ds is 7, thankfully not a fan of soft play but he rare times we go I often have to go to rescue him as he has mobility problems and tends to get stuck!

hearyoume · 21/02/2017 13:07

We go every week but only during the day when all the older children are at school. I went in with DD until she was nearly 3. She always needed me to go in with her until one day I wasn't wanted anymore. There are always a few adults in there when I'm there. I have no issue with it.

Northernlurker · 21/02/2017 13:07

You need help with your irrational anxiety op.

Mrsemcgregor · 21/02/2017 13:07

Soft play areas don't allow lone adults in to play. The adults on the equipment are much more likely to be looking after their own kids to be doing anything with yours.

Try to relax and not be paranoid
