To wonder why things won't go right

I'm not sure if anyone remembers I had a thread a while ago about behind jobless and homeless after a break up. I managed to sort something out, found somewhere to live, got a job. Due to move into new place this week.
I thought things were going ok when I get called into my new managers office and told my store is closing down and I would be out of a job in a month. He had no idea and said he wouldn't have taken me on if he did.
I'm just exhausted by the fact that every time I seem to pick myself up something happens.
I know it's not really an aibu but I don't really have any rl friends and I just feel like I don't have anywhere to let this all out.
I guess aibu to think things have to get better soon?

It's always tougher when the kick comes just as you're starting to pull yourself up. Takes so much energy to re-start yet again. But you can do it. In a years time your life will be so different. Just hang in there.

I hope so. I'm trying to stay positive.

Is the store part of a national chain and if so is there chance of transferring to another location? Do you have children, if not then relocation would be easier for you.
It can be hard to think outside of your comfort zone when your anxious but think of this as a totally new start for you.

Use the month to get as many applications out there, sign up with many agencies as you can. Is there a university/ HE institution nearby that you can apply to for a job as they usually have a range of roles not just teaching. Have a look at the jobs page of your local council to see what's available.

oregon I don't really have any advice, but I wanted to say that I deeply sympathise with this - that things going wrong yet again feeling is just the worst. You will get through it, and your degree will be useful some day. Life is long, this is just a tough bit.

oregon1985 · 20/02/2017 22:12

Thank you :)

You do sound very down which is very understandable. Have a hug from me.

In terms of retail don't discount the supermarkets because many have good opportunities for bright members of staff who want to progress. I appreciate its not your career of choice but doesn't have to mean being stuck in a NMW job forever.

Might it help if you make yourself a plan using short term, medium term and long term goals? In the long term you possibly want to move area and work in your chosen field I imagine? So try to make the first two steps into stepping stones to get there.

Good luck.

oregon1985 · 20/02/2017 22:21

I know I'm going to have to get a job I hate for the time being but it's just so crushing when everyone else I graduated with is doing jobs in the field. It doesn't help that I'm older so it'll be harder to get a foot in.

Is there a job you could do with accommodation included (Nannying / Au Pair?) so you could save up some money. It might allow you to move to an area where opportunities in your chosen field are more prevalent? Or up sticks and rent a room in a shared house in a large town or city where retail jobs might be easier to come by...then you'll be in the right location to move back into your chosen field? Short term pain..and all that?

Sounds like you might be quite isolated where you are now?

Hope things look up for you soon x

oregon1985 · 20/02/2017 23:04

I'm not, I'm in a biggish town, just about to Move into the cheapest houseshare I could find. I'm stuck there for at least 6 months now but even then I won't have the money to move. I'm in a lot of debt. I applied for every job going before I got this one and only two people got back to me. I have loads of retail experience too :(

Could you sign on at a temp agency just for now or maybe domestic cleaning ? If you get a few clients you could earn a reasonable amount ( I did this when I was up the creek job wise).

I'm sure none of this is in your chosen field but it doesn't have to be forever .

oregon1985 · 20/02/2017 23:31

I don't know how temp agencies work?

Have a look at this site

CondensedMilkSarnies · 21/02/2017 00:11

It doesn't have to be retail , they've got jobs in all different areas

hollinhurst84 · 21/02/2017 00:30

I don't have any advice but BrewCake

If you want a laugh, I was all yay 2017!!!
In the first two weeks of 2017, someone drove into my car (for the second time in 4 months), their insurance company went bust, I broke my dressing table and the sliding door of the wardrobe fell off, and I had surgery

Then I came home and my neighbours had flooded my flat. Twice. Luckily insurance covered but over a grands worth of damage. I was so frustrated at everything going wrong that I kicked the door and broke my little toe. Don't do that, it hurts Grin
