I have some friends coming around for dinner in a couple of weeks and struggling to know what to cook! Was thinking of making creamy tarragon chicken but need to serve an additional main so people have a choice. Can anyone help? It needs to be simple!!

I loathe tarragon so wouldn't eat it, why not roast chicken with a choice of sauces

PovertyJetset · 20/02/2017 20:57

2 mains is nuts!

Leg of lamb, dauphinois potatoes, string beans.

Or

Chicken basque, green salad

Foodangst22 · 20/02/2017 21:36

Would you really not eat it if someone cooked it for you unknowingly goose?

My mum made this for a family get together a few weeks ago, served with rice. It was fab

I'd never do 2 mains unless a vegetarian version - e.g. Lamb curry and veggie curry.

I cooked for 12 recently and funnily enough did as suggested up thread - leg of lamb, salsa verde, dauphinois, chantenay carrots and braised lettuce and peas.

Currys quite fun as you can do a Dahl and flatbreads to go with your main dish.

Chicken tray bakes with salad, potatoes etc always good.

A nice tagine and some fluffy couscous.

I rarely do starters - just olives and dips over drinks but for 12 would do two or 3 puds (generally someone will bring at least one) and a generous cheese board.

OhTheRoses · 20/02/2017 21:55

Starter: Melon and prosciutto, soo easy or lightly fried Halloumi with lime, garlic, parsley and olive oil (warm) dressing with good soda or rye, bread.

For 12 I'd keep,it really simple and, poach a whole, salmon, possibly with Delias grape and tarragon chicken salad on the side with lashings of buttery new potatoes and salad.

For pud I'd do a magnificent berry mille feuille dressed with spun sugar and extra cream plus really good vanilla ice cream, strawberries and cadbury's flake.

Remember it's not a restaurant. People will be grateful that you were kind enough to cook for them. 2 mains & 3 desserts is a lot of work. Don't get competitive / think you have to match that. Far better to be a relaxed host

fuckwitery · 21/02/2017 09:09

I have genuinely never heard of serving two main courses before. Am baffled. You're not a restaurant. Guests eat what they are bloody given.

Exceptions being vegetarians, food allergies, and buffets!!

Apart from goose apparently!
