Wibu to take a day off work tomorrow?

My mum normally has my youngest on a Monday while I'm at work and my partner catches up with admin stuff, so he's normally available if for whatever reason my mum isn't able to have them. Tomorrow however, my mum has called in sick, but my partner has some important job interviews lined up that he would find hard to reschedule. Would it be bad of me to take a day off for childcare to allow him to go?

If you have no one else to look after your child and the jobs your partner have interviews for will help your family then i would phone your work and say that you have childcare issues and need the day off.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 19/02/2017 14:04

Of course take the day off!

foxyloxy78 · 19/02/2017 14:06

Take the day off for sure.

HateSummer · 19/02/2017 14:07

Yanbu but I wouldn't call in sick yourself. That's wrong.

GertrudeBelle · 19/02/2017 14:10

YANBU to take annual leave if your employer consents

Katy07 · 19/02/2017 14:13

As long as you don't pretend to be sick.

Worried61 · 19/02/2017 14:14

No you wouldn't.

Beachedwh4le · 19/02/2017 14:17

Just take it as annual leave, rather than a sick day

tabithakitty · 19/02/2017 14:19

I would take the day off but I would be honest about the reasons why, I.e. I wouldn't take a sicky.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIAmOhNo · 19/02/2017 14:28

Can you either ask for annual leave, or ask for parental leave? Parental leave may be unpaid but it exists to deal with unforeseen emergencies, such as having no childcare.

PageStillNotFound404 · 19/02/2017 14:35

YANBU to ask for annual or parental leave at short notice.

You would BU to ring in sick.

MadJeffBarn · 19/02/2017 15:40

Oh no I wouldn't call in sick, my employers are far more understanding with childcare issues than sickness.

It depends... if you're my assistant who's repeatedly been off sick/injured/children ill over the last 6 months I'd get your bum into work as the team are getting annoyed. And I've discovered your nickname was "sicknote" in a previous job.

If that's not you.... then ring work and get the day off. Wink

Well of course yanbu, what's the alternative, leaving your DC to take care of themselves?
