Could anyone help me please work out my salary when I start my new job.

I will be working 21 hours per week over 3 days and the full time salary is £19,483.91.

Also could anyone tell me what tax code I would be on and also what tax and National Insurance I will likely to be paying. Thanks so much. Sorry no idea about these things Smile

How many hours is full time?

purplemunkey · 18/02/2017 22:40

Well, it will likely be 60% off the quoted salary at 21hrs. To work out your take home though I'd use something like the salary calculator
m.thesalarycalculator.co.uk

Sorry, using mobile and there are no instructions on how to make it a click link.

purplemunkey · 18/02/2017 22:42

Ah, it made it clicks automatically! I used this when working out my take home from a part time job offer, was very useful and accurate as it turned out. Only thing I hadn't thought about was pension contributions so you may need to think about that as an additional reduction if you choose to pay into a plan.

Hi full time is 36 hours per week

Right so. Assuming you work 7hrs a day, 5 days a week, your full time weekly hours are 35. 35hrs x 52 = 1820 annual hours. £19483.91 / 1820 = £10.7054 ph. 21hrs x 52wks x £10.7054ph = £11690.35 per year.

Now, as of April the new standard tax code will be 1150L which means that your first £11500 of your salary is tax-free, so you'll be paying 20% on 190.35 = £38.07 annual tax Grin. NI is payable over £680 per month at 12%, so your NI will be £35 a month, give or take.

I've been out of payroll for a bit though, so I might be wrong on the NI but the tax is right.

Hah, just checked my workings on the Salary Calculator - still got it Grin

AlexanderHamilton · 18/02/2017 22:49

You need to find out how many hours/days makes up a full time contract. If we assume full time is 5 days then your salary would be £11,690.35 but that depends if a full time full day is 7 hours or 8 hours for example.

Your tax code depends on your circumstances such as have you worked since April or claimed benefits. Do you owe any tax from previous years & will you get any benefits in kind eg company car etc. Assuming none of this applies then a normal tax code is 110L (you may be put onto a week 1 basis if you havnt got a P45 which means it won't be cumulative but worked out on a week by week basis)

Will you be paid weekly or monthly? Assuming you are over 21 the NI tables are here (page 8 for weekly page 22 for monthly)

Tiredbutfuckingfine · 18/02/2017 22:49

36 hours over 5 days is 7 hours 12 minutes per day. Three days could just be 21 hours for simplicity, or could be 21.6 (21hrs 36 mins)

Easiest way to work out part time hours salary from the full time salary is:

Full time salary, divided by full time hours. Then times that answer by the hours you will work. Then put it in a payslip checker to do the rake home pay

Zoflorazoflora · 18/02/2017 22:52

£11,366.13 per year
£947.17 per month
£217.98 per week

Tax- £6.10 per month
NI- £33.60 per month.
