Watching Graham Norton and I don't think he's said a single thing approaching interesting or amusing.

YANBU, but I almost never find actors attractive or interesting as themselves, only as the characters they play. Loki, yup. Night Manager, hell yes. Hiddles himself... not really.

Bambambini · 18/02/2017 20:09

Ha, the worst thing you can do is get a silly crush on an actor you fall for watching them act in amazing, hot, deep parts - and then start looking up their interviews, articles etc - and realise in real life that they are just as knobbish as your average garden variety bloke.

MrsJayy · 18/02/2017 20:12

I remember my Tom cruise crush as a teenager and we all know how he turned out

LadyPeterWimsey · 19/02/2017 09:53

Somerville - classicist too. Grin

haveacupoftea · 19/02/2017 09:58

Dont fancy him at all and I inexplicably have a special place in my heart for rich boring thesps. Love Benedict Cumberbatch and Matthew Goode.

Somerville · 19/02/2017 10:15

LadyPeter I didn't want to out classicist as being your type, but that is what I was thinking, yes!
Do you know anyone who knows TH? I earwigged like mad overheard someone who taught him at Cambridge, who is now in my neck of the woods, saying that he was always nice and 'decently clever' (high praise from a don) but they were genuinely baffled at him ending up a sex symbol. Grin

LadyPeterWimsey · 19/02/2017 14:15

Somerville He got a double first Google tells me so that sounds like 'decently clever'. I don't know anyone who knows him, although I think there was a Mnetter on a thread once who knew both him and Eddie Redmayne at university and had strong negative opinions on TH.

My starting criteria for attractiveness are clever, confident, competent and kind. But not, apparently, cool. Grin

Somerville · 19/02/2017 14:41

Nice work with the quintuple alliteration there!

I think the single most attractive quality for me is genuine enthusiasm. Romantically, but also in friendships.
And coolness seems to generally be ascribed in our society to people who don't seem to give a damn, which is the opposite of what I find attractive, but more to the point, is why TH isn't 'cool' - he's far too enthusiastic.

LadyPeterWimsey · 19/02/2017 14:54

Yy, I love enthusiasm, wholeheartedness and sincerity. And energy. DH reminded me of Tigger when we first met. Even earnestness is attractive in an age of ironic superficiality.

TH seems just so eager to please - which as you point out is the opposite of cool. I don't really buy him as a sex god, but I bet he would be loads of fun.

I seem to be talking myself back into the crush on him I had last year.Grin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/02/2017 15:09

I like posh boys in good suits. They are my ideal men.

He was fabulous in Archipelago, Coriolanus, Only Lovers Left Alive and The Night Manager and the only thing which made Thor and High Rise worth watching.

I can't stand the James Bond franchise but if he or indeed Tom Hardy get it then it will for the first time be watchable.

Somerville · 19/02/2017 15:09

You're talking me back into my post Night-Manager crush, too. Grin I can never quite work him out though. His enthusiasm seems genuine and his intelligence is attractive (both rare in an actor). But in some interviews he overdoes it with all the impressions (or the dancing - God, the dancing Shock) and in others, like GN the other night, he is so earnest it goes beyond attractive and comes across as dull. It makes me feel like he's not actually confident enough in who he is as a person.

Your DH sounds fun. Grin Clever but bouncy is a great combination.

In the very early days with DH2, I told him that the thing I found most attractive about him was how much he fancied me. Hmm Thankfully we just about knew each other well enough for him to understand that what I actually meant I liked was his bravery and confidence in being so upfront about it... And he then got an evening of me listing absolutely everything else I found attractive about him, in fear of him taking offence...

MuseumOfCurry · 19/02/2017 15:10

I couldn't get into NM. He looked doughy.

Somerville · 19/02/2017 15:12

Doughy?! If anything he's too skinny for my liking.

Yes - men who are not too cool - for which read too scared/lacking in confidence - to reveal how they feel. (It's what I have always loved about my fictional husband...)

I usually massively cringe when watching TH in interviews of the GN type. He seems to do better in more extended serious pieces. Not that I have researched him extensively on YouTube or anything.

As to doughy/skinny, he seems Just Right to me.Grin And yy to posh boys in suits.

Somerville · 19/02/2017 19:06

That kind of research is quite easy to get absorbed in for Hiddles, isn't it? Grin

Purely for research purposes, you understand, I just watched one of those 'TH cutest moments' vids. And actually didn't fancy him at all this time round. I don't know if it's the TS thing turning my stomach or if I can lay the blame at DH2's chin abs feet. After being married a bit longer I'm sure I'll regain my eye for handsome film stars. Wink

MuseumOfCurry · 19/02/2017 19:14

I meant more like pale/pasty-ish.

fuckingwall · 19/02/2017 19:23

TH is just a bit square. He is a good actor and he can play a 'cool' character convincingly. He should keep his head down for a bit and do an action movie.
Tom Hardy or Rupert Friend should be Bond.

LadyPeterWimsey · 19/02/2017 19:29
Grin
LadyPeterWimsey · 19/02/2017 19:30

fuckingwall He is doing the Kong: Skull Island film which will either make or break him as an action star. Judging by the trailer it may be the latter...

FrayedHem · 19/02/2017 19:38

His poor forehead got very burnt during the Summer of Lurve Tour with TS. He is better pale and interesting.

Underbeneathsies · 19/02/2017 19:48

He is, and always was, as boring as the lesser of two weevils. That is all.

Somerville · 19/02/2017 19:50

Apologies for putting you off your dinner, LadyPeter. Grin

Frankthefrog · 19/02/2017 19:51

I don't know if I'd say dull but he seems to have lost that twinkle he used to have! I love him in everything he's been in especially the night manager! Wouldn't turn him down x

Eolian · 19/02/2017 22:36

He was unbelievably hot in the Night Manager though. That very brief but intense sex scene... . Sadly I too am a sucker for a complex, dysfunctional, emotionally unavailable posh boy in an expensive suit. Sherlock too.
