To chase this complaint up with the estate agent?

My DD passed her test recently and has bought a car which she is parking on he road as no room on our drive. Our neighbour has taken a disliking to it, don't know why as it's not blocking his house or anyone's else's drive - it's just on the road.

My DD returned from work about 2 weeks ago and was met by he neighbour who was incredibly aggressive, shouting at her to move her car now and threatened that if she didn't she would be sorry. My DD was frightened and moved her car just so he would leave her alone.

When she told me I was furious. I emailed the estate agents who manage both our properties and made a formal complaint against our neighbour regarding the incident. I've heard nothing despite several phone calls to speak to the office manager until today when I received a generic email, which I assume has been sent to our neighbour. It said something along the lines of - the road has no ownership and they encourage us to come to a compromise, with a copy of the land registry. No mention of my complaint.

I have never been in a situation where I've had to complain to them before so no idea if what they have done is correct - but surely they should have acknowledged my complaint, spoken to the neighbour and let me know that they have dealt with it? Aibu to chase this up?

The EA manages the property on behalf of the landlord. They are not the police. You need to approach the appropriate authorities if this happens again.

OliviaStabler · 17/02/2017 12:20

This is nothing to do with the EA. Why did you not go and speak to the neighbour yourself?

He clearly thinks there is an issue or he presumably would not have shouted. Best to talk and try and calm things down.

I have spoken to the neighbour previously but he is not a reasonable person so after the latest incident I decided to contact the estate agents. I just would have thought that the estate agents would have atleast spoken to him Sad

The Estate agents job is to manage the properties no referee neighbour squabbles.

If she is threatened again call the police of the neighbourhood policey people

"I suppose I just expected him to be spoke to by them and told that it is not acceptable to harass my DD! "

Do you share the same gas supplier? Perhaps they could help? Ooh, try the postman :-)

Sorry OP, conversation with neighbour is the way to go and, as others have said, the police if they really are screaming at you (not just rude).

Why would they? It's not their job, and who wants to get involved in neighbour squabbles when they don't have to? All they care about is that the rent is being paid and the property isn't being trashed.

kali110 · 17/02/2017 12:57

Sorry op really not much they can do.
If he tries it again contact the police.

"they encourage us to come to a compromise, with a copy of the land registry" - tbh I think that's made it worse as if she was parked legally and not obstructing him (I realise you can park legally and still obstruct someone's access) then there's certainly no need to be consulting the land registry or seeking a compromise.

eurochick · 17/02/2017 13:18

Like others, I have no idea why you though the estate agent had a role to play here.

viques · 17/02/2017 13:26

I think you should log with 101 , not that they will do much. Then perhaps you could park your other car on the road and your dd park on your driveso that if shouty man wants to shout at someone he can shout at a mature person, who is more likely to stand up for themself. If he does kick off again then having logged with 101 will provide evidence and they are more likely to deal with it.
